birthday buttons
While not being a carefully gaurded secret....
If you are there on your birthday - or your kids birthday... stop in at city hall and get a birthday button. We did this for my daughter, who turned 6 last November. She wore it all day, getting many well wishes along the way. She was singled out during the day parade, and every character signed her autograph book with a nice big Happy Birthday wish.
To top it all off... at the Plaza eatery, they gave her a free ice cream bar for her birthday just before the electrical parade.
It made the day even more special.
BTW - we go to the parks about two or three times a month, and my daughter still finds the magic, thanks to little things like this.

Nice post Adam!
To add to his "secret".
If you are wearing your button in the parks and an alert CM spies it - he or she may ask you if you have gotten your birthday surprise!
They call a number and Goofy wishes you a "Happy Brithday!"
Happened to my DS, DD and Dniece.
Also, there are 3 different BDay buttons.
DAK - A Tree of Life button
MGM and MK - A Castle button
EPCOT - Happy BDay in different languages.

1hr....
I didn't know that about the Goofy phone call. - I guess that is one more thing to do on her next birthday.

To be conscious that you are ignorant is a great step to knowledge.

My dh's birthday is 2 days before we get there, can I get him a birthday button? I would be fun to do that for him!

Yes you can. My birthday is in Dec, I work in retail and can not go at that time. So this Summer when Sis and I were there she got me a button in Epcot. I got the birthday call at the Mission Space Store and free desert at Le Celleir. Eeyore made everyone sing Happy Birthday to me and someone else in England.

We were checking into the Contemporary and the CM noticed my BD button (had already been to the MK) she asked when is your BD? I told her today. When we returned to our room that night, there was a balloon and a BD card signed from the Fab 5. Thought is was such a nice gesture.

I tell you... there is nothing like WDW when it comes to this kind of stuff. IT's amazing what little things they will do that make the experice so special.
And as for the "two days before" question, I think that if you told them that, and that you were there as a "birthday present" for your child, I can't image them saying "no". They are in the business of making people happy, not disappointing them. (Then again, they did put out that Treasure Planet movie...)

Birthday buttons - the button at MGM looks exactly like MK's button. However, the AK birthday button has the Tree of life on it and I think it still says Today is my Birthday. Epcot's button is the coolest! It's a rectangle, red border, has Happy Birthday written in different languages and says Happy Birthday from your Epcot family.

Dates?
Do the Birthday Buttons have the date on them? Also, does each park have them? How much are they? If they have the date on them, can you buy one that has already passed?

I didn't know about the buttons until a few months ago. I had never seen one before. No, there is not a date on them. My b-day is in December, but I am going to ask for a button when we are there is September, but will probably not wear it, or maybe I will.

Asked for my Annivcersary Button, but they said they didn't have any more, so they gave me a B'day Button. Got a little extra special treatment (even wehn I explained what it really meant) including a CM buying my DW and I coffee at the Writer's Stop in MGM!!

Very Nice Lou! Glad you all had a good time, even if it was a week late.
