Antique Phones at MK

Yeah, I know there are other posts about the phones, but I got a picture to share!

I finally found one of these phones that plays a prerecorded conversation. I asked a CM early in the day and she said they are only at Disneyland, but I've read so much about these being at Disney World. Later a very friendly CM around the Jungle Cruise area confirmed they indeed did exist and told us about this one.

As you head towards the castle on Main St. you will come to a little alleyway on the right after VMK Central. There's nothing in the alley but shop windows and entrances. As you turn right into the alley, turn left into a doorway to the Mercantile (I think it was called) and just next to the register is one of these phones. The cashier looked at me like I was nuts as I had this picture taken.

WARNING, the message is VERY loud. It's a conversation about the kind of things people could find in a turn-of-the-century mercantile, a very fitting Disney ambience thing. VERY COOL. In fact every few moments you could hear a phone ringing, sort of beckoning you to pick it up like the Indiana Jones water well at MGM with all the signs saying, "DO NOT PULL THE ROPE."

Great Report and Great Picture. I'm going to have to look for this when I head down this December.

I just came back from WDW and there is a phone like that in the barber shop.I did not think of the party line so I did not pick up the phone.Is the one in the barber shop like that too?

i would guess the barbershop phone does have a message on it. i read in several books and online forums about phone(s) plural. my wife and i looked and looked, but primarily outside. once the helpful cm told us about the one in the mercantile i realized they all must be inside.

we never went in the barbershop on our visit.

i would be intersted to know if standing in the barbershop you can hear a phone ringing like i could in the mercantile. the strange thing is that the ringing must have been coming from a speaker in the room, not the phone itself. i could barely hear it, but when i stood by the phone it wasn't any louder. when i picked up the phone the ringing stopped. too cool.

let us know about the barbershop.

i think i have the full party-line recording somewhere... i'll check around for it (email me if too much times goes by and I forget) ;)

I picked up the barber shop one but I got a dial tone. I don't think that was supposed to happen so I just put it back down. I should have asked but didn't. I just have no backbone.
