I think I only noticed the waves with the Swan's once, I thought little of it at the time because Swan's could hypothetically be connected with water. Very interesting though, I'd like to know more about this!
During our Illumination cruise in January, Captain Jeff told a story about the Swan and Dolphin hotels. He stated that this story has never been confirmed by any sort of authority figure, but the possible mistake can be seen by everybody!
The icons atop the hotels are HUGE. They weigh thousands of pounds, and they are on the wrong hotels!
If you look closely the buildings are painted pinkish and have large green mural like designs. The Swan's mural is of waves and the ocean!
The Dolphin's mural is green grass! Of course it would make more sense for the Dolphins to be splashing around in the ocean then the grass!
It seems that during the construction process the large icons were made right there at the site and then hoisted up on the WRONG buildings! Of course it would have been to expensive to move them, so they stayed where they were put.
Now, why they never repainted the buildings I do not know.
But, that is my story, and I'm sticking to it!
Anybody ever notice this about the hotels??

how funny!!! i didn't notice this...oh well...NEXT TIME!
The way I was officially told...
You look out of the hotels at each other.. In the swan you look out and see grass. You look out of the dolphin and see water.
Was intentional by the architect.
They are correct by design. The swans are about 4 stories, dolphins about 6 stories. They would look out of scale on the other building.Originally Posted by Loric
Okay....well, here's a question I've never had answered.
Why is there a goldfish on top of the Dolphin while there is a lovely swan on top of the Swan?
C'mon, that's not a dolphin up there, is it?![]()

Yep its a dolphin.Originally Posted by Goofy Guy
actually it is a dolphin fish. not the air breathing dolphin such as "Flipper"
Also known as Dorado, Mahi Mahi
Dolphinfish have a tightly compressed, deep body and a steep frontal slope. In males and older fish, the 'forehead' has a pronounced crest or hump. It has a long dorsal fin which runs from the top of the head to the butt of the tail, the dorsal fin has no hard spines. It has a deeply forked, long lobed and wide tail.
Dolphinfish are brilliantly coloured fish that light up with irridescent blues, greens, gold, yellow and orange colours. They are an excellent sport fish, that fight hard and can leap from the water.
They are taken on lures and live baits, and are usually found around floating objects at sea.

This is another little known (though some of you may know it) fact about the swan and the dolphin.
See the black squares in the middle of each of the hotels?
Disney thought that a few years after the S/D opened they would put a monorail through the 2 resorts but for some reason that never happened.![]()

I guess they did not add the monorail there because the WDW resort was expanding and they were not going to extend the monorail system to everywhere, so they thought there would be no reason to add it to the Swan and Dolphin.

Reason being it would cost millions of dollars to remove everything in the way and it would jeopardize the integrity of the structure.
Michael Graves has used this design in other buildings around the country,

Right you are Brian. These myths just keep on going, perhaps to give the Swan and Dolphin some publicity. I get e-mails from them all the time with some great deals on rooms for $250+ per night. I can stay at the All-Stars for 5 days instead.Originally Posted by tiggerguy
As for Michael Graves, check out his website: www.michaelgraves.com His stuff is everywhere, even at Target.

I've always thought that the Dolphin looked more like a Carp. Every year we joke about the Carp Hotel.
