The whole entire time we were there there was a driver on the monorails but we didn't find out by a CM until the day we were leaving
The first couple times I did it, I felt a little sheepish asking, because I had no child with me. But now, it doesn't even phase me. I ask to sit up front at least once every trip. And I agree with another poster - this is one of those Disney experiences that's greatly influenced by the specfiic cast member. If your monorail captain is up for talking and answering questions, it's a vastly better experience.
However, If the captain is not very talkative, it can be very awkward. That's happened to me a couple of times. But it is still a must do for me

yeah
i would like to just hope on to it and just cruise to each of the monorail resorts and go to epcot
and see each of the resorts at christmas
It's really great. You get a whole different perspective. I love going into EPCOT.
We just did this again two days ago. This time instead of wings, we received a co-pilot's license from riding up front.

Last year, I was going to the TTC from Epcot and my group and I were sitting in the front. It was at night so you really couldn't see much, but then we made a turn and we could see the Magic Kingdom fireworks. It was perfect timing, because we were able to catch the last few minutes, along with the finale. It was great!

we got to do this four times when we were there this month. its really neat to have the experience. we also got the co pilot licenses. Our first time up front this trip we got to talking w/ the driver and found out he was a member of the college program and hadnt even been driving the monorail for 3 whole weeks yet!
