Yeah, I'm at WDW now and they aren't allowing it (which I totally understand).

I totally understand too. What I am having a hard time understanding is the monorail can't take a relatively low speed impact, why is it OK for pilots?
Wonder if they will redesign the pilots cabin in the future. Kind of scary now if you're a pilot, you know if you are stuck it will be bad. Sad.
Some people are like Slinkies.
They aren't really good for anything,
but they still bring a smile to my face when I push them down a flight of stairs.
Friends are Gods way of apologizing to us for our families.
I don't think it's a safety issue for guests. I mean, let's face it...that was a freak accident. I think it's because people (in general) don't know when to keep their mouths shut.
Plus, if anything were to happen again, it's better for Disney to be sued by one family (the pilot's) than by multiple (the guest's) because if it's the guests, it's a PR nightmare. If it's a pilot, it's a tragedy, but it's just an accident.

I'm sorry to report that at least as of last Tuesday (9/22) when we left, they still were not allowing people to ride in the front.
The cast memebers didn't seem any happier about having to turn folks away than we felt hearing "no". Hopefully if people keep asking and there are no more accidents in the near future they may change the policy back to allowing it.

The monorails are running. But guests are not allowed to sit in the front with the driver.

Kat228's right. Unlike others who have posted above, I "don't" understand the issue, either. The monorails have been operating since the parks opened in 1971, and even longer in Disneyland. No monorail pilot has ever crashed his train into another killing someone. It's not for the safety of the public. It's to protect Disney against any potential liability.
One of my DS friends from Birth was piloting a monorail that evening that was not involved in the accident. Thank goodness. His opinion, it would likely never happen again.
Talked to this pilots Mom and the hours that went by before she could reach her DS were grueling, the not knowning, as they cannot have cells while piloting.
These fellow pilots went to H_ll and back loosing one of their own. So sad.
I didn't go, but my friend just got back from Disneyland, and they were allowed to ride in the front of the monorail.
Just reporting!

DL still allows people to ride in the front. It's just WDW that doesn't.

It really stinks that they don't let people ride up front any more. But I love the monorail so much that it really doesn't matter where I ride.
