Taking pins through security?
Good morning everyone :) I have a quick question I'm hoping you guys can answer. I'm going to Disney World next Friday (thanks to my boyfriend..who will be visiting for the first time!!!) and we will be flying down. I've never been on a plane and obviously have never gone through airport security...if I decide to take my lanyard with all of my pins on it...will it set off anything in the security area? I'm just nervous because I've never been on a plane, and I don't want to make any of the security angry, or do anything wrong haha. Has anyone ever had trouble with this before?
Re: Taking pins through security?
On my last trip a few weeks ago, I took a few pins in my carry-on, and it went through security successfully. I checked almost all of the pins that I took, but put three or four in a carry-on so I could trade before my suitcase got to the hotel on the way there, and then for any last minute trading at the EarPort on the way home :)
Re: Taking pins through security?
I wasn't sure if I could on the way back from Disneyland so I checked mine in on my suitcase.
But then my suitcase didn't show up till the next morning... so it's a chance you have to take if you check them on or go through security. I don't think it would be a problem to go through security with them.
Re: Taking pins through security?
Thanks guys :)...I'm worried about my luggage getting lost (or them getting stolen), not that I have very many pins, but I have enough, and that's a lot of money to lose, so I'd like to keep them with me. But, I was looking at the TSA website, and if they allow scissors and screwdrivers on the plane...I can't see why pins would be a problem. I might call TSA just incase to get the official word. Thanks again :D
Re: Taking pins through security?
I think I took a few in my carryon bag on my last trip. I didn't get stopped. I'd call and check the policy.
Re: Taking pins through security?
I just let them know I had them in my carry on as i went through security
Re: Taking pins through security?
I believe the new rule is that any "blade" less than 2 inches is allowed. (Don't quote me on the exact length, I'm going on memory.) So now simple grooming accessories are allowed (such as tweezers, nail clippers, those little scissors that come in grooming kits that I use to cut tags off of clothes :inquis:.) So the pins are fine for carry-on. I would definitely take them off instead of wearing them through the metal detector. If the security agents have questions, they'll just open your bag and take a closer look, no problems!
Re: Taking pins through security?
I've brought my folder of pins through security several times with no problems! Both to WDW and DL.
Re: Taking pins through security?
You should be good. On our last trip, my sister went crazy with the pin stuff, and she brought her lanyard on the plane. She got through security just fine. You should be just fine.
Re: Taking pins through security?
Same as the rest of the posters, I put my pins in my carry on bag. No problems.
