Florida Likely to Win High-Speed Rail Grant
With all the articles out this week, it seems that Florida is likely to get the
2 and half billion grant it needs to build the high speed rail system that will go from Tampa to Orlando (with a stop at WDW).
Announcement tomorrow by the President in a town hall meeting in Tampa. Guessing he isn't going to say, sorry, no.
+ Tampa is about 70 miles from WDW.
+ The rail will travel up to 150 mph
I would be able to fly into either Orlando or Tampa. Heck I could probably get to WDW quicker by the rail from Tampa than by ME from Orlando!!!!
Choices would be great when looking at airfares.
Plus I could buy a house in the Tampa area with a beach and hop a train and be in WDW in a matter of minutes!!! Choices!!!!

Awesome!
I think... Payed for with more of our "contributions", of course...
Oh well...
I remember stating several months ago around here about how cool it would be to have the Monorail go between MCO and WDW.
Wonder how much Disney might be involved?
And...
Will they need batteries OR will they have any job openings for meeeeee?!?!?!?!

Disney lobbied for a stop at WDW from the get go instead of it whipping right past. Good move.

Re: Florida Likely to Win High-Speed Rail Grant
I read about the original plan years ago that did not pan out. Now, it looks like it might come true. If this happens, it will open up more accomodation and vacation home options if you do not want to stay in the Orlando area, but still have a 30 minute or less commute to WDW.

Re: Florida Likely to Win High-Speed Rail Grant
It'll be interesting to see how this all works. Honestly I don't see myself using it unless it is really cheap, saves a major amount of time (like from Tampa to Orlando in 20 min or less) and there is free parking at the Tampa train station.

Re: Florida Likely to Win High-Speed Rail Grant
As someone who takes the train form Connecticut to WDW quite frequently. I'm happy to see this. I dont think It will help my train as it is bound for Miami. But travelers from Tampa will benefit. A station stop at WDW is a great idea. I will have to find out how close the tracks run to WDW property. I meet alot of families and individuals on the train down and back. I would like to see Disney team up with Amtrak to maby do a themed train. As for a dedicated rail line or Monorail to WDW would be too costly. With all the products WDW uses they would have built a dedicated freight rail line years ago.
