Transportation to Universal

My family and I are going to Disney in August 2010. We are staying on property but decided that we were going to spaend 1 day away from Disney. So we purchsed tickets to Universal. My question is what is the best way to get to Universal without renting a car? If we were to take a cab would we need child safety seats with us? Please help.

we were going to just do a taxi.. but petals on here said they taxi'd from universals to disney and it was like $70 and so i went to the the auto center on disney property and i have put in to rent a small car for like $50 for the day including tax and extra insurance..

dont know if its the best.. but it sounds cheaper than a taxi and you can rent car seats there too

Call ahead and ask about the taxi. Sometimes they are expensive. You might be able to rent a car cheap, but also take into account the gas and parking.

another reason i picked renting a car is because we are going to hp's wizarding world then do the horror night thing as well.. if we have our own car we can leave for a couple hours get a lil nap maybe before doing the whole horror nights deal

Mears runs shuttles back and forth from Disney to Universal. They pick you up at the front door of your resort.

Also the public transportation system runs a bus from downtown Disney to Universal for a dollar or two per person.

The only issue with those shuttle services is that you're on their schedule as far as pick-up from the parks.

I've used Mears since 1988. (they are under cover ME bus drivers also)

We were able to pick our times. They use their vans generally so there are vans constantly coming and going. We even took an earlier one back to Disney once when they had a no show group. Betting there is going to be a lot of people popp'n in on Universal.

I did a Mears Limo in 2005, so it has been a while. I was transferring from a Convention at Universal/Hotel to Disney resort. I pulled up my expense report and it was $55.00 one way.

I would not discount the bus from DTD though. I've read on other forums that this is a viable option and cheap.

I cannot remember the shared van transportation costs but it was very reasonable. When we went to Universal they asked us what time frame we wanted and they had a couple options per hour. They like ME stopped at a couple Disney Hotels.

As most Guests are popp'n in on Harry from the Disney Resorts I bet they will be running a lot of shuttles.

I was reading on PassPorters and Intercot forums that they too had members using Mears. I'd call them and get a quote.

Also consider if there are 3 of you while you are on the phone with Mears ask for a roundtrip quote on a Lincoln Town Car shuttle. It may work out around the same. No harm.

Happy Limo.com ...These guys quoted me $41 each way + tax for a Lincoln Towncar. The have car seats for $5 each way if needed. They pick you up at your hotel and drop you off right out front of Universal. Then they pick you up when you are done @ the park and take you back to your hotel. They will also make stops for you on the way back.

I however like the public bus option. Cheap, cheap, cheap!

As far as I remember it was mears we used to get from our Hotel which was Holiday Inn at entrance to Universal to Disney last time and it cost us 70 dollars return i think.. I emailed hotel we're staying in this time and they said there's a bus but it costs 7 dollars each way cos our travel agent told us 2 dollars as well.

i didnt get a chance to call mears.. as i was at work at the other salon and have like no cell services on the ground level
