tipping the magical express driver
i was reading my 2009 birnbaum guide the section about the magical express.. i have never read this part before because we have always drove down.
and i come across a section where it says to tip the driver $1 to $2 per bag.. ok..
my question or thoughts are:
my carry on.. i will carry it with me... why tip for a bag im carrying and my under the plane bag.. how do i know the right person will be getting the tip.. because dont they say your luggage comes way later and when do i tip him.. should i be like hey i have a bag coming heres a couple bucks thanks..;)
and like when our bags get took to our room.. we wont be there.. because im chkn in and going to the parks as soon as i get there.. so how do i tip that guy?
Re: tipping the magical express driver
You don't have to tip them if you have no bags aboard. if you've got the yellow tags on your luggage, and they are taking it for you, you don't have to stop to pick up your luggage, so you won't have your luggage aboard.
If you are taking ME AND want to take your luggage yourself, then don't put the yellow tag on. In this case you would have to tip, because the driver would be loading the luggage in and out of the bus.
I hope this helps!
Re: tipping the magical express driver
If you happen to put luggage, stroller or whatever under the bus, when the driver takes it out when you get to your resort, you can tip him for that. Any carry on you take with you personally on the bus, no tip. No bags at all going with you, no tip.
Re: tipping the magical express driver
I pick my own bags up at the airport and take them with me to ME. I usually tip $1 a bag unless he's a fun driver then he gets more.
Re: tipping the magical express driver
Yeah, we also tip a dollar per bag - or if we're travelling with an extra-whopper sized suitcase, then we will top maybe $2 instead.
Re: tipping the magical express driver
Gratuities are a suggestion. There really is no set amount, however I always think what if I had to do that job and what would be acceptable for me. I used to work in a hotel and carting luggage is a chore that has to be done.
I usually tip $5 for the whole family if there is three bags. It really isn't much but we all know that people traveling lose their patents and ask for a lot of assistance.
Gratuities are up to you. Yet some of the jobs have gratuities as part of their salary.

I was wondering the same thing, thanks for asking Chrissy!
Re: tipping the magical express driver
We had one ME driver take us back to the airport, took his wired microphone and bungeed it around a pole so nobody could get off.
We couldn't leave even though we did not have luggage.
He took various luggage off, undid the mic and proceed to announce that gratuities were expected and stood at the door.

Re: tipping the magical express driver
I've heard drivers say gratuities are appreciated, but never expected. I'd have to not tip just because of that.
Re: tipping the magical express driver
Blimey - that would really get my back-up - cheeky monkey!

Re: tipping the magical express driver
We have carry-on that we store under the bus and we always give the driver 1-2 per bag. We'll give more if the driver is entertaining and fun. We've only had a few of those, but they do exist.
Re: tipping the magical express driver
I think there's a cup up front, if I remember correctly. Stick a dollar in there when he's watching. Or else just hand him a buck or two and say thanks. It doesn't really have to be connected to strictly bag collection.
