So they are coming down to do Universal?
It appears that Disney's Guests are not spending all their time at Disney any longer.

The article doesn't really say if overall park attendance is down, could be more people staying off-site with rental cars to visit more than just WDW.
I agree with NC_WDW_Daddy. I think more people are renting cars and staying off site. People love going to WDW but are now finding ways to go there cheaper. We love DME but we've contemplated renting a car to do other things.

I know I can't afford to fly and save a ton of money by driving, even all the way from Toronto... so maybe with the economy lots of people are just driving more? It's costing my boyfriend and I $600 to fly for our cruise, and that's only that cheap because we're driving across the border to Buffalo to avoid the international taxes. Last March it cost the two of us $230 to drive from Toronto round trip... so already a huge savings, never mind if you have a whole family!
I think you hit the nail on the head Zippity. With the value of a dollar way down and airlines charging for everything now it isn't economical to fly right now with a larger family.
I would hope Disney would see this and decide to reevaluate pricing.
I think Disney should open it's own airport strictly for it's guests. The Walt Disney World International Airport. But that's just me.![]()

Was going to happen once upon a time...
The Cruise Line, I personally believe, would also have eventually come about under Walt's leadership.
we have always drove and this time we flew.. i have to say that yes flying is quicker.. but once your there.. i didnt care for the magical express.. and we wanted to go to different places and then we took mears to universals and back.. i wish i had just rented a car.. because i felt like i did nothing but a whole alot of waiting on buses and lines.. and then when we went back to the airport on the magical express me and brent didnt even get to sit near each other![]()

I don't plan to fly again any time soon. It has become such a hassle and when you have to pay for luggage etc. it is easier for us to drive. Now that the kids are older it is much easier to take drive our more economical car and save money.
We plan on going in June of this year and we plan on using Magical Express. It is the best deal out there. No hassles using a rental car or other transportation. I highly recommend this service.
We are going back in late June for 8 days 7 nights. Only taking husband and number 4 son. Very nice!

I live 1717 miles from WDW
that does make some sense... but i did the magical express and stayed at AS Music in '06... and took taxis to Universal and Sea World and it cost about $100 total... about 25 or so avg each way... that was worth it because at the time i was 20 and the cost to rent a car would have been astronomical...
