A Brit-Chick Goes Solo in Disneyland – Wednesday 22nd September 2010

My day started at the crack of dawn – 4.30am to be exact! I’d spent the night before packing up my case and travel bag and at around 5.20am, Matt drove me to the train station where I was catching the 5.42am trail to London Waterloo. Even though I was excited about visiting Anaheim, because Matt wasn’t coming with me, we bade a tearful farewell and had a lump in my throat for much of the journey up to London. I arrived without a hitch or any delays and the same applied to the Tube ride from Waterloo to Heathrow Airport. After checking in and making my way through to security, I killed time for the next few hours in Heathrow’s departures lounge.

I did a bit of shopping and bought some breakfast and before long, I was on board the plane and heading for California. The journey from London to Los Angeles is a little under twelve hours, so I had plenty of time to watch some movies (*** and the City 2 / Shrek 4) and read on my Kindle.

Although, by the time we finally touched down in LAX, I was starting to feel very tired and was looking forward to getting to my hotel. I had pre-booked myself on a shuttle from the airport to the Quality Inn and Suites in Anaheim and only had to wait for about 10 minutes to be picked up outside the airport. However, the journey to the hotel it’s self took a ridiculously long time – we had hit rush-hour in Los Angeles bang-on and it took over two hours to get to my destination. By this time, I was completely worn out and after checking in to my hotel room (around 6.30pm), I collapsed in a heap on the bed and planned on having a short 1-hour power-nap before heading out to Downtown Disney for some dinner and mooch. It took a little while to drop off, as I had been put in a room right across the car-park from the Santa Ana Freeway, which was REALLY noisy!

As you can probably guess, I was in no condition to go out after I woke up – I’d been up for over 25-hours and as much as I wanted to start experiencing the Disney magic right away, I just didn’t have the energy. I put my evening’s plans to rest and instead, set the alarm for 7am the following morning and got my head down for some decent sleep.

I barely ever manage to nap - especially if I'm about to start a Disney trip. I'm like that little kid in the old Disney World commercials - I can't sleep - I'm just too excited!!!
