WDW & DCL May 2011 Day 12 (Wild Africa Trek)

Tuesday May 24th 2011
We were up early today as we were booked to do the Wild Africa Trek at Animal Kingdom, we got ready and went to get the bus.
The bus ride was great the driver turned off the automated spiel and spoke to us on the mike just like the drivers used to do
We checked in for the Trek just outside the turnstiles although on the phone we had been told to meet at the Dawa bar, when the group had met up we were let through the turnstiles and led to the Dawa bar. We were taken round the back and fitted for a harness and given insect repellent and met our guides and also went across a 'test' rope bridge.
Next we went through part of the Pangani Forest before being taken to the path that is behind the Hippo's. You got to hook onto a rail and go upto the edge to look at them, a keeper was also giving info about them and gave them some food to encourage them to come out of the water.

The Hippos were followed by going on the bridges above the Crocodiles, Kerrie did well considering she is scared of heights, the guides were telling us to rock the bridge a bit to make it more authentic lol.

I got this face because I rocked the bridge lol:

but she soon cheered up:

Then like with the Hippos we got to hook onto a rail for a close up of the Croc's.

We went round some more paths round the back of the Savannah before boarding a private truck that took us onto the Savannah, we kept stopping for photo's and binoculars were also available.

Next we stopped at an outpost on the Savannah for some African inspired food, everything was edible (apart from a bamboo spoon) including an Orchid and Banana leaves that the food was wrapped in (Banana leaves are tough to eat lol)

Eating the Orchid:

There were scopes set up to view the Lions and also binoculars available, after the snack we boarded the truck again and made our way to where Kilimanjaro Safari unloads before going back to where the tour originally started.
The Trek was great, we both enjoyed it and can highly recommend it, the guides are also taking photo's of the group while you are on the trek and a c.d. with all of the photo's are sent to you a couple of weeks after the tour, all included in the cost.
Our group:

After the tour we spent some time in Animal Kingdom, watched Festival of the Lion King and the parade before getting the bus back to Kidani to get ready for our ADR at Jiko.

We got the bus to Jambo House and had a look round as we were a bit early, there were quite a few animals on the Savannah.

We were seated next to a window at Jiko and given an amuse bouche to try and were also given bread.

To start I had grilled wild boar tenderloin

Kerrie had a BBQ chicken flatbread

for entree I had seared barbarie duck breast

Re: WDW & DCL May 2011 Day 12 (Wild Africa Trek)
and Kerrie had Sikhumbuzo's Peri Peri Chicken

After dinner we got the bus to Epcot and shared a sundae

and then made our way round to France in World Showcase for the Owners Locker meeting, we had a great time talking to John and also Matt, Tracy and Chloe who we met at the meeting last week. We watched Illuminations and then stayed talking to Matt and Tracy, we arranged to meet at the Top of the World Lounge tomorrow night as we were moving to Bay Lake Tower to tomorrow and before we knew it we were running to catch the last bus back to Kidani Village as time had just disappeared lol.
With John from Owners Locker:

We'd had another brilliant day

Hi Emma they are a bit of both ones from the cd were photos 1,3,10,11,13,14 and the group photo, I took the rest. There was over 200 pics on the cd but they are of everyone in the group so if you get an embarrassing photo then everyone in the group is going to get a copy lol, there are some pics where because the harness is pulled so tight around your legs some of the guys look a bit eerrrr 'enhanced'
there are also a few generic shots of animals included on it
