While I don't publish trip reports nor read others...thought this past trip would lend some insight to others traveling to WDW via Amtrak...

We left out station in Ohio boarding Amtrak, 2 hours late....we arrive in DC for a 6 hour layover to catch the south bound Amtrak. Union Station is an experience in itself, huge....restaurants and shops....back to the story....we board the south bound train and wait for the rolling start but after 2 hours, we're still sitting in station....finally announce that the train will not be leaving and we must detrain and return to the terminal, tracks washed out just south of DC....what....after sitting on the train 2 hours and now get off? Back in the station with alot of others, we are told to "go home"...again, ....What? Go home? Some of the others have come from California, Chicago etc...and just to go home...how?

After alot of confusion, yelling and irate Amtrak employees not knowing what to do or say, they finally got someone with a brain to explain....gave us food vouchers, put us up in hotels and provided transportation to and from for the night and to call a certain number at 7 am the next morning for a contingency plan.....off we go and yet we have to locate our luggage off the still sitting train and schlep it across the station to the front where a shuttle will take us to the hotels....it's not 2 am.....

Next morning we call, Amtrak says all is back in order and the train will leave at 3 pm....great..fine...we go down to breakfast thinking all is fine and then to hear from other travelers that they got many conflcting stories from Amtrak.....more confusion so we decide to go to the station at 9 am to hear and see from actual Amtrak personnal what's what....once there, we're told no trains are running south.....they finally order up motor coaches (5) to get us to Richmond Virginia to board a train going south....so we wait...board the bus (again schlep our luggage to the bus) and then head out to the coaches....4 hour bus trip to Richmond....finally on the train headed south to WDW....we lose the first night of our vacation (called Disney and explained situation and they reimbursed us) and the rest of the trip is uneventful....we arrive in Kissimmee and are whisked away to WL to begin our stay....

We're in a courtyard main pool room, 6th floor and it's ideal....we have an enclosed balcony, have our granddaughter with us ( 20 months) and not have to worry about her or things falling out the balcony....weather is ideal, mid 90's all week, no rain.....just perfect....resort is perfect (at least 10 trips to this resort for us)...hardly anyone around, pool mostly empty thru the day.....Roaring Forks...no crowds easy in and out and great meals....

We rely soley on Disney Transportation and it was fantastic....buses and boats not crowded and very timely....boat to CR to catch monorail at TTC for EPCOT a breeze.....parks are almost vacant...mornings were like we were the only ones there...never used a FP...not needed...everything a walk on....even HS we arrived around 10am and walk onto TSM in 15 minutes....all in all the best time to go....really no one anywhere....

Going home is never any fun but we call Amtrak and they say all is well, repairs all made and we're back home at 2 am arriving 30 minutes late but didn't care...really hate going home and losing that first night in Disney a bummer but what can you do.....near perfect trip.....lack of crowds made the trip the best and again...Wilderness Lodge can not be beat for theme, setting and location.......
