DWT Girls WDW Trip: Magic, Magic, and more Magic!

DWT Trip Report-Overworked and Under appreciated Gal’s Trip to WDW

It was a big gamble for me-taking a vacation to one of my favorite places in the world with 3 complete strangers.

All we had in common was a love of Disney and a membership to this little place we spend so much of our time called the “Walt Disney World Trivia” website.

And I had never met any of these girls, and to be honest, the Michigan girl who has traveled the globe has never been to the home states of any of her group mates…Nevertheless, the adventure began, after months of talking, planning, and hundreds of PM’s, with four girls meeting in one spot from four different places…

Wednesday: Day One: Let’s start from when and how the entire group met for the first time-we chose a central spot, and one you can’t go wrong with-the Magic Kingdom!

However, some of us got a jump-start on our trip. Lara flew in early on the day we were to meet, and got a head start checking out the Animal Kingdom. Summer got an early start on her drive from Georgia, and I drove in earlier in the day than I was scheduled as well.

So we arranged to meet prior to our official “meet” with our fourth group member, Jerrame later that evening.

Lara, Summer and I met at EPCOT and excitedly talked and walked as we planned our trip. The three of us, killing time in the best place to do so, went to the “Character Connection” at EPCOT and started out our trip meeting Mickey and some friends. And we were all excited, but let me tell you something-nothing adds to the excitement like being around like-minded Disney lovers!!

We checked out the wait at Soarin' (80 minutes, so decided to wait until later in our trip) and then decided to ride Spaceship Earth. It was great, but I do hope with the addition of a new sponsor the ride gets a sprucing up.

Around dinnertime, we decided to head to the MK to await the arrival of Jerrame. We walked down Main Street, my new friends, and I, and it was magical. We were all jumping up and down, screaming like the little kids we are at heart!

Hungry, we felt like a sit down meal, and decided to try a walk-up to the Crystal Palace despite the evening crowds Wednesday. We were told it would be about a half hour wait, so we put in our name, and waiting, taking in the sights and sounds around us-and soon enough, we met Pooh, Tigger and the gang while we dined on an excellent buffet of prime rib, salads, baked chicken, and delicious deserts!

OK, so let’s jump to the moment Jerrame arrived-and of course; it was full of plenty of excitement! The parade was coming down Main Street, Jerrame called and told us she was on the other side of the parade line, and soon enough, there she was!

We hugged like long lost friends, and our adventure began!

First impressions: Lara (GaRain), Summer (4Mickey), and Jediprincess (Jerrame) are three lovely, sweet women, and for me, it really was like seeing an old friend in each and every one of them….. I just KNEW it was going to be great! Lara is the epitome of a Southern Belle-bright with lovely hair and smile, she was a joy. Summer, is a 6 foot tall ball of energy, who is absolutely infectious with her smile and positive attitude. I really had a blast with her. Jerrame-she and I were like sisters from the first moment! Can you believe we had never met? She is fun-loving and enthusiastic. A great pleasure to share this trip with, for certain!

By the time we met up, it was late, and most of the little ones were starting to leave-but when you plan a trip to Disney with three other Disney fanatics-you make the most of the time you have! We walked around, talked, and enjoyed rides like Peter Pan (thanks ladies for humoring me!) and later we caught Wishes, a first for me!

After exhausting our first evening at the MK, we headed to our hotel. Port Orleans was great-I think our deluxe snob, Jerrame, was pleasantly surprised, but did notice the room size difference, and obviously, the fact that we use bussing instead of the monorail to get around! Soon enough, the charm of this Disney moderate resort won her over.

(Read on for the next day's excitement!)

Thursday, Day Two: The next day, we were up bright and early to grab a quick bite to eat, and head to Epcot for our Dolphins in Depth tour. This was a first for three of us, as Jerrame recommended this tour from her trips, so we trusted her judgment. It was amazing! We walked right to the Living Seas Pavilion, was escorted in the back and got to see this amazing aquarium and what goes on behind the scenes from a completely different perspective.

Our tour guides and trainers were excellent-excited, informative, and kind. We learned about the anatomy of dolphins, met the four dolphins held at this location, and soon enough, the big moment-we hopped in the water and got to spend some quality time with these serene animals.

I think I speak for all of us when I say this was an experience we will never, ever forget!

next, we meet up with Tampa (joey), stay tuned...

(DWT Gals plus our very own Tampa had a blast with Mickey himself at Chef Mickeys!)

    Day Two continues at EPCOT:
After the tour, it was almost 1 p.m., and it was time to meet up with another special member of the DWT trivia team-Joey, better known to us as Tampa or “Ranch”. As we headed to the Land pavilion (Soarin’ fastpasses in hand and the time approaching) we grabbed a bite to eat in the new food pavilion as we waited for him.

While we enjoyed varying foods (chicken Caesar salad for me-yum! Chinese food for Summer and Jer, and a bit of desert for Lara) we wondered how we would find him in the sea of tourists packed in to this bustling pavilion!

Well, how about this-a skinny man wandering the pavilion with a DWT t-shirt on, golden Mickey ears, and a DWT pin brushed past us, and almost in unison, we screamed “Tampa!”

As he joined us for lunch, we came up with a game plan for the day, and it wasn’t long before this sweet, fun guys was an honorary member of the DWT Overworked and Underappreciated Girls Tour!

So that day, the group, clad in our yellow DWT lanyards (Thanks Lou!) took in Epcot, starting with a first time-trip on Soarin’ for Lara-thankfully, she loved this ride much as the rest of us do!

It was a long day, filled with trips back in time to the dinosaurs on Ellen’s Energy Adventure, on a drive test for Test Track, and through the River of Time in Mexico. We enjoyed a margarita and Mexican beer as we walked through the countries in the perfect weather.

It was all great-if there was a downer that day; it was our dinner at LeCellier in Canada. We had 5:20 dinner reservations, and we arrived a few minutes early. After being told 3 different occasions that they were “bussing our table”, we waited about 45 minutes to be seated, and the restaurant was not full.

The wait staff was pleasant, but Joey and I both ordered a mushroom filet mignon, and were both disappointed this $27 steak was small, dry, and not that tasty.

(me cutting up Tampa's steak for him!)
The others in the group, including Jerrame with a moist and great looking steak and the Summer Lara, had better-looking food.

The bread was delicious, but again, Joey and I were both disappointed with the famous cheese soup-very possibly, this was just an off night, but this day, it was chalky, pasty, and tasteless.

Friday, day three: Magic Kingdom day! We began with another tour-the Mickey Magical Milestones Tour. This two hour tour began with a travel around the MK, thru Exposition Hall and a history lesson in Mickey and Walt and the beginning of the mouse we all love and the man who made it happen.

For people like us, trivia buffs, I wouldn’t say we learned that much, but still it was fun. The highlight was a walk through Mickey’s Summer House in Toontown fair, and guess who paid us a visit? Mickey himself! I thought 4 Mickey (Summer) was going to pass out, she was so excited! At the end of the tour, we were maid honorary Mouseketeers in training, complete with our own personalized ears!

We then met up with Joey again, and took in the MK together. We made the most of it-we rode Astro Orbiters (not my thing, but it was good to finally try this) Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, and much more before we had to go to our dinner plan at the Contemporary Resort.

We hopped the monorail and joined a fun, exciting group of Mickey, Goofy, Donald, Minnie and the gang at Chef Mickey’s. We had an absolute blast!

This meal was what we were looking for: Good food, good friends, plenty of our beloved Disney friends and everything great that makes Disney, well, Disney for us!

I have to add something here: On our way to the dinner, we swung through Adventureland, and lo and behold, in front of me, for the first time in real life, I saw Peter Pan and Wendy!!! This group was kind enough to stop and let me meet my two favorite Disney people-I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t speak, I gave them a hug, the group took my photo, and it was, for me, an amazing highlight.

Back to Chef Mickey: Dancing, singing, laughs and more made this meal worth every penny! We didn’t want to leave! But we did-and capped off the evening with a series of rides down Splash Mountain, where Lara, who doesn’t do water rides, was a trouper and rode this for us!

The rest of us rode it alone (it was late now, and getting chilly, but didn’t stop us!) a few more times and had a blast.

We took in the Haunted Mansion late as well-creepy and fun in the dark! Later, it was time to say goodbye to Joey-and we were sorry our next day would be without him, as we really enjoyed his company!

(stay tuned...EE ride report, MGM visit, and meeting two more DWT members is next!)

At MGM with Mickey: from left, Nicole, Lara, Mickey, of course, Mandy, Paul, and front and center, Jerrame and Summer....we had a blast with everybody! And we say Donald and Daisy together! Daisy was giving us "talk to the hand" gestures and a whole lotta fun attitude!)
Saturday, Day Four: MGM-Yes, and no-we started with a bright and early trip to the AK to try to catch Expedition Everest! As we waited for the park opening, along with what seemed like thousands more, we crossed our fingers that we would be able to ride this. The park opened, and WE STARTED RUNNING to Asia! The look of four girls wearing the bright yellow DWT lanyards was enough to get the attention of someone you might now-CM and DWT member Summer Sun, Paul and his good friend Mandy!

Screaming, “Disney World Trivia!” we all greeted each other as we ran to EE. What a way to meet! We got on EE first thing, and I don’t know how to describe it. This was an amazing ride! I loved every minute of it! We rode it twice, and it really was a work of Disney art! Don’t miss it!

(Group riding Dinosaur-a totally staged photo of us-hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil, etc...aren't we....evil?)

The group of now-6 then rode Dinosaur, and then headed over to MGM. Paul and Mandy are so kind, and we enjoyed our time with them. Paul was informative, and Mandy made us feel welcome, so thanks guys! Together, we rode the Great Movie Ride, Rockin Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, and more! Paul and Mandy had reservations at France in Epcot, and we had Fantasmic! Dinner packages, so we parted for dinner. We had an excellent meal at Mama Melrose’s (I had excellent chicken parmigiana) and when it was time, I finally got to see Fantasmic! It was wonderful! Full of great special effects, music, and great evening fun.

Now, I had been battling a cold much of this trip, and late each evening, it caught up with me. So this night, as I had others, I left the group in the wee hours to return to the room and rest. I feel bad about it, but my head was swirling and I was beyond exhausted, from not sleeping well to the head pressure. So while they headed to the MK after Fantasmic, I went back to the hotel around 9 or so to pack to head home early the next day…..

Sad to go and leave my new wonderful friends, I said goodbye to the DWT trip Sunday morning and headed back to join my family. I was excited to see my husband, kids and the bunch, but very, very sorry to see my part of this experience come to an end.

This experiment turned out to be no gamble at all-Disney, always magical, was even better when shared among great new friends.

We did split it-but I still didn't think it was worth the price-I feel bad for Joey, who had to have me cut up his meat for him, and then he still couldn't enjoy it!
