Swimming in December?
We are taking our first winter trip to Disney on December 11th and staying at POFQ, again. My question is do people swim at that time of year? We are from the frozen north so as long as the water is warm and the temp is above 75 we will hit the pool. Are the pools heated and open that time of year?

The pools are heated and open far as I know but you may end up freezing your rear end off getting in and out of them. It's a common misconception that it's warm year round in FL. I've gone to WDW many times in December and was in jeans and sweatshirt and still cold.
Sometimes all you need is a reminder that out there lies a better place... a better world... a Walt Disney World.

I have been surfing on Christmas eve ....but I've also worn my ski jacket to Christmas eve mass - which is to say - Florida weather is like a box of choclates you never know what you're going to get
Pack the swimsuits - regardless of outdoor temp the pools will be toasty!

I don't know about the rest of you, but does this look like swimming weather to you? This was in December 2003. Those hats and scarfs felt really nice! We were living in MD at the time. The sun was bright, but definitely not warm.

Next time I'll go when you go.

I was there in December once and wasn't able to swim. However, I've been in November twice and swam both times.
I will say this, though. If I were to go in December again, I might force myself to swim. There's something nice about the idea of swimming in December...especially when you live in a colder state.

Florida weather is like a box of choclates you never know what you're going to get ? I love that saying
We went for the holildays 2006/7 and made it into BB a few days
Alas Typhoon lagoon was shut
But we did leave snow and ice behind in England?? So it was nearly tropical in comparison ,

I've been there many many times at Christmas...and just like others have said, some years its hot and some years its def. not...we have family pics where we are in hats and scarves and then some where we are in shorts and t-shirts...BUT the water is always warm...either way swimming is a must as a part of the adventure
enjoy!

4 yrs ago we went in December and my daughter got to swim, then we went 2 yrs later at Thanksgiving and wore jackets! We're going this Thanksgiving and I have no idea what to pack. I keep checking the weather channel online and it looks like we will be able to at least wear short sleeves, maybe shorts!

swimming
We spent 14 days at POR (Dixie) starting a few days prior to Christmas the year of the Cake Castle and only wore pants one day. We also went to both water parks (in the day they were both still open in Dec.) We swam each night and then hit the hot tubs, got overly warm and high tailed it back to our rooms. I remember the guards being in sweat suits/sweat shirts and we northern folk thinking 70 was perfect for a swim looking at us like we were nuts!
8 more days and back home to DIXIE (I don't deal with change well) and planning on hitting the pool and then the hot tub again. Here is hoping for a warm
Thanksgiving!
