I need a suggestion, should I purchase trip insurance or not? Since we are going at the end of September and during hurricane season, I have heard mixed feelings about investing in trip insurance.
So, what do you guys think? Also, if anyone has suggestions on where to purchase it, it would be appreciated also.
Yes!!! I got it last time through Amex but they have changed their trip insurance so I just went with Disney.
I think you can get multiple quotes on insuremytrip.com and I have heard good reports on using them.
I voted yes, but not so much because of the possibility of hurricanes, but because the airlines are so crazy these days. If the insurance covers your whole trip and you'd have backup in case the weather or the airlines ruins your plans, then I think it would be money well spent. I think insurance also covers changes in plans due to severe illness as well, but you can check on that when you do your research.
We purchased it for our upcoming trip. We did it for several reasons. We haven't second guessed it once. Ours covers a whole list of things (illness, accident, weather, etc).
Thanks all to your help. Please keep replying with your thoughts. I am leaning toward purchasing it, however, I still have a little doubt.
When I first started planning our trip I didn't think that I would get the insurance and then the longer I thought about it and the more I got into planning I decided it would be better. I knew if we were flying we'd definitely without a doubt get it (we're driving).

Where do I begin........................This is what happened on my last visit to Disneyworld in October ................The flight takes about 9hrs................well about 2 hrs before we were due to land in Orlando my Husband started to feel really ill & by the time we got to Orlando he had collapsed, so as soon as the crew got all the other passengers off the medic crew dashed onboard ( they were fantastic ) .it was like something you see on the tv or movies..............anyway they got him off the aircraft & into an ambulance & we had a Police escort (sirens wailing ) & I had to sit up front with the ambulance driver....ambulance sirens on too.....She said bet you never thought you,d be riding in an ambulance!!.......I said " No, I thought my first ride in Orlando would have been in Disneyworld,s "Splash Mountain".I had to make a kinda joke or I,d have :cry: .
He was in Sandlake Hospital for 4 days & it was an ulcer that caused all the trouble so all our plans had to be set aside when he got out & we took it easy day to day as he felt very weak & not up to more than a few hours at a park at a time.
But we were determined to enjoy what we had left of our holiday as its not like you live an hour away & can go back any time.....................Oh & to top that ,I had no luggage!!!!!!!!!!!!!from the Friday evening ( when we got there ) till Sunday night .............late at night ................when I finally got the Airport to deliver my luggage direct to the Hotel.
When I left him at the hospital it was like 2.30AM IN THE MORNING and I called a cab & thought I,d wait outside the main entrance ......by 3..30AM still no cab .& to be honest I was getting really frightened at that time of the morning standing in the dark..........so back into the hospital I went & they rang for me again & finally at 4am I got a cab to check into my hotel. NIGHTMARE.
We got to all the parks during the following 2 weeks and even got to a " Halloween Party " in Magic Kingdom.& went to "Dixie Stampede" dinner show ...I highly recommend it .
Had loads of photos done & made the most of the situation .................. now I can,t wait for Nov/Dec this year when we hope to do all the things we weren,t able to do last time.
Oh & one more little thing that went wrong..as we left"Epcot" we bought our photos that we got done in there that day.....four lovely ones. Somehow we lost them on the way back to the Hotel...........so back we went to "Epcot " the next day & luckily I had the photopass & the receipt & were able to get them done again............I said " These are the most expensive photos I,ve had done & the lovely man said "no charge mam" Thankyou Disneyworld.......there are some nice people around.
You never think in a million years that something like this can happen to you on your holiday good job we had the right kind of insurance...the many bills came to over 26thousand american dollars........................ FRIGHTENING.

Oh, Maggie - how horrible! I am glad that you can laugh about it now. What a challenging way to start a vacation that you have been looking so forward to. I am glad that you are all safe and healthy now.
When you are purchasing air tickets and packages that have non-refundable deposits and whatnot, trip insurance can really be a great investment. Especially, like noted above, you just can't foresee some sort of illness or airline problem that could cause you to interrupt or cancel your insurance.
For the $67 per adult, that can really give you some peace of mind. Outside of Disney, I always recommend AccessAmerica. They have very competitive rates, excellent customer care, and different policy choices. Plus, they are always available to answer questions - especially helpful when you have specific questions on what is or is not covered. :)
OK. I'm going to get the trip insurance. My wife just received a letter from the Federal District Courts saying that she is being considered for jury duty. The government just forced me to buy insurance, may I write this off on my taxes???:lol::lol::lol:

There are a couple of stories I will share with you all so if anyone is still thinking about insurance (even after Disneylady's story) hopefully this will help with you decision. My FIL, MIL, and DH (at the time I didn't know them) were going on a cruise to Alaska. The morning they were going, they received a phone call from MIL's sister. Her mother was dying. She left that same morning on a flight to Holland and my FIL and DH left for the cruise. Her mother died while she was in Holland. If she didn't have insurance, she would have had to give up a couple thousand dollars or make the painstaking decision to go on the cruise. Why have to make that decision?? Which leads me to my next story.
Good friends of my in-laws found out that the husband had cancer and was given a short time to live. One of their children had booked a trip with their family to Barbados without insurance. They made the decision to go on the trip as planned. I am sure that they did not have a good time. If it were me, I would be thinking about my father the whole time, calling in to see if things were okay and stressing out rather than relaxing. Luckily the father is still alive.
Always, always, always take insurance. It doesn't cost that much to have some piece of mind. We are from Canada, so when we travel to the States or anywhere, we always have insurace.

Disneylady - what a nightmare! It's hard enough to deal with medical problems when you are home, worse when away from home, and absolutely scary when you are traveling overseas. I'm glad you were able to salvage some bits of your vacation. Better luck in Nov/Dec! (Hope to catch you in FL.)
