| Abductions My sister's coworker was at WDW last year and her child was abducted. As soon as it happened, she reported it to security and they took her to a security hub where they told her to look for her face and shoes, not her hair or clothes. On a parking lot cam, the woman finally spotted her daugher, and just as the security guard had predicted the childs hair had been cut and clothes had been changed, but not her shoes. Apparently things like this happen all the time and kidnappers take the child to the bathroom and the first thing they do is cut the hair and change the clothes. I was wondering if anyone knows how often this happens. |

| I don't know how often it happens, but Orange County in general is a pretty bad area, especially the closer you get to Orlando. Orange County broke their own murder record last year and I believe they had a record 135 home invasions as well. I'm not sure about abduction/kidnappings through. I don't remember hearing about many, but I don't think they get the publicity that some other types of crimes do in Orange County. So far this year I think I've heard about 4 actual abductions and about 3 attempted abductions where the person was able to get away from their attacker if they were old enough to run/fight back. That's why I always stay on property and never off property. Orange County is a bad place. Not that things can't happen in Disney, obviously they did for your sisters co-worker. Even at Disney we usually stick to a group, if we don't the other person knows where were going, when we're expecting to come back and we keep our Mace on us all the time, bag-check or not. :/

| Good grief. Thanks for the link Brian. There was a similar storyline on CSI Las Vegas. Involved a popular kids pizza and gaming place, scary, but keep your hands and eyes on your kids in public. Looks like Snopes debunked this one.

| Re: Abductions Relax everyone, this is another very common urban legend that has existed for years. It usually goes from I got it from a friend, to it happened to my cousin, to it happened to a co-worker and so on and so on. If this incident indeed happened, the County Sheriff would have investigated and then it would have been front page news just like the molestation at Downtown Disney, The fondlings at the water parks, the Monorail crash, etc. When scary things involve WDW, they always get reported, either through media leaks, or through official reports. An abduction would not be handled internally through Disney because they have no jurisditcion in a kidnapping, the sheriff's office does. Yes, bad things can happen in WDW just like any other big city the size of San Francisco, but in this case, no way! There was a parental abduction that made the news some years back and an alleged rape that turned out to be a total scam between a brother and sister concocted to force Disney to pay big bucks in a lawsuit settlement. Follow the same rules you would anywhere else. Don't let your children wander off, remember what they are wearing (experts recommend taking a digital photo of them every day and keeping it in your camera in case you get separated so you can show security) and introduce your kids to cast members, and security officers so that they know who to go to in case of a problem. Don't treat your kids any different just because it's Disney property! |

| Re: Abductions Thanks for quickly shooting this terrible rumor down. This is certainly not the forum to spread this kind of nonsense on. So either the original poster's sister was lying or their co-worker was. Hope that person goes back to them and tells them to stop messing with you!!
