How to get a non-disney fan to WDW???

Everyone, I need your help and ideas!

My boyfriend puts up with my Disney obsession but he is not a Disney person. He is also not a thrill ride enthusiast (like me), or a water person (so no water parks).

This is the part where I need your help, what parts of WDW can I use to tempt him into going to WDW?
My starter for 10 is Pirates of the Caribbean; he is interested in seeing the (great) ride that the film idea originated from.

Your ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Try some of the nightlife around the Boardwalk resort area. Once you get him to the World, he might just develop the same obsession as you.

I have the same problem! My boyfriend HATES the state of Florida because its usually so hot there that he said he'd bite the bullet and go to DL but not WDW - but I want to go to Disney World! I have been trying to convince him we can go in the spring when its nice down there, but he won't listen to me :-(

As we're in the UK, I haven't even managed to get to Disneyland resort Paris.
I have the same heat hating problem as you to deal with.
I'm sure we will manage to convince them some how.......

We really enjoy disney in the spring. just warm enough to make us forget its still winter at home and not the summer heat. We were so used to the cooler weather in March that we almost thought it was too hot in March '07 when it was consistently in the 80's instead of upper 70's. lol. Try the spring he will love it.

Re: How to get a non-disney fan to WDW???

Hi!
I do not know if this will help, but it did with my husband. You might want to see if you can find a DVD explaining the history of Disney and how it came to be. There is a real good one that was done for the cable station History channel. The show is Modern Marvels and it explains the building of Disneyland and Disneyworld. It made my husband appreciate it more. In the states we can go to the library and order these DVDs for free. Is this the same case in the UK?

Hope this helps!

Being from Texas, the heat in Florida has never been an issue for us. We get on the plane in Austin and off in Orlando and it's basically the same weather. The only difference being that, in mid-July, it's around 100-ish here with 70% humidity and 90-ish there with 95% humidity, so it pretty much evens out!
But, on that note, we were there this past Dec. and it was obviously a lot more pleasant. Although, I wore t-shirts the whole time and most of the people we were with at least had light coats on...!
And if your not interested in the waterparks, Dec. is also a really great time because of all the Christmas/Holiday decorations.

Yes! Any DVD's or TV shows like that, and even old and new clips on YouTube are great ideas!
I have always been a Huge Disney fan and I have heard people say that some of these shows reveal too much and take away from 'The Magic', but I have found that, for me personally, they only exponentially reinforce 'The Magic'!

Re: How to get a non-disney fan to WDW???

Is he into golf or mini golf or fishing or even car racing? They offer all of these on Disney property. If he isn't a thrill ride enthusiast then he's in luck because Disney parks aren't really known for that, they are more know for well themed attractions with many hidden treasures and the stories behind them. Get him Lou's trivia book so he start reading about all the fun trivia and this way he can look for hidden treasures while at the park. The book will make him very knowledgeable on the park trivia and he will probably get a kick out of showing you a few things.

Re: How to get a non-disney fan to WDW???

You might try presenting it as more then thrill rides, and make the water parks not a big deal as they are not part of the original 4. Go with the History of the various areas of MK, then the environmental and world inclusive nature of Epcot, the fun and magic of movie making at DHS and the mystery and awesomeness at AK.

Those are the tactics I would use, themeing, inclusiveness, attractions other then rides and the eco friendly way WDW does things.

Have you requested the free vacation video guide from WDW? This will not only show the "thrill rides" but also all the true Disney Magic attractions. I like to watch my free vacation video guide for entertainment! Am I sick or just addicted?

She just needs to tell her boyfriend she wants to make him sick... But the good kind!

Re: How to get a non-disney fan to WDW???

Don't push, don't twist arms, don't sit him down and throw trivia books or behind the scenes movies down his throat. It could backfire and put pressure on him to HAVE FUN AND APPRECIATE IT DARN YOU!!!

One day he'll take the vacation with you if you keep asking. Go in an uncrowded time of year. Don't worry too much about him and enjoy yourself. Have fun, hop on rides you think he will enjoy first, and see if it rubs off. If it doesn't don't worry. Just find other friends to go with.

I have a friend who's hubby doesn't like Disney or do any of the rides. Whey does he go? "She has so much fun there, I just like to see her happy." I think that's the road to take.
