We decided to book our trip to WDW 2 weeks ago. We will be leaving this Monday. However, since we booked it, we have been unsuccessful in really getting into any of the restaurants we would like to dine at. Of course I expected that the character meals would be harder to get, but I thought we might have been able to get one or 2 throughout our 5 days. We can't get one!

So the suggestion came up to just go to the restaurant you want on the day you want to dine there and see if there any cancellations.

Any other suggestions or best practices for this? I feel like this is becoming a small job to do while we are there when we would rather be having fun.

Any thoughts are welcome.

If the restauarant requires a credit card for the reservation, try calling within 48 hours of when you want to visit. If someone has had to cancel, they will do so by then or their credit card will be charged.

Try going to your resort front desk before you leave for the day and when you go back for breaks and end of the night and they can punch up the system and see if anything has come up for your time period. We did that every day last year and we finally were able to switch our breakfast time as there was a cancellation. You just have to be persistent but don't let it ruin your time.

I was just going to suggest the same thing!

Also....have you tried booking lunches instead of dinner times? And...try at Resort restaurants rather than restaurants inside the parks. Try Whispering Canyon at The Wilderness Lodge and Kona Cafe at The Polynesian.

Beaches & Cream at The Beach Club Resort is considered a table service and they do not make ADR's for this location so you could always show up there and eat. If you do this....I would suggest showing up a little before 11 AM (when they open) because it is a rather small restaurant and fills up very fast!

Good luck and like catiebug said...don't let it ruin your time! Even if you aren't able to get an ADR don't hesitate to walk up to a restaurant and ask for a table. There are a lot of guests who make multiple ADR's and do not do the right thing by cancelling the one they aren't going to use. It's a shame...but it happens.

i would try going to the restaurant, *usually if it's just two people and not peak season you can get a table*

but remember a lot of this is because of the Free Dining packages.
*and ADR's but i wont get started on trying to eat some where at the end of may, on a spur of the moment trip..ok i will go there. it ended up with a manger, manger mind you telling me from 407-Wdisney a) if i was staying at a resort they could have found something for me and b) that i should try and plan ahead...i called back and spoke to their supervisor, and like to think that person is no longer with disney, and ended up at O'Hana for the first time ever (at that point i was crying my eyes out andmy husband on was on the phone, very special vacation, i'm was/am out of work and my husband had been on a two week long distance sirvalence, and my parants treated us to a small vacation out of the blue)

but dont let it ruin your vacation. DTD has great sit down places to eat. And I would also try lunches *if you hadnt thought of that already*
