The tradition of roses to the parks was born from a stunt I pulled during a visit to WDW near the end of my senior year of high school, just before boot camp (one last roadtrip as a long-haired punk with an attitude). Between that particular trip and the one several years before, at some point I came sort of out of the closet regarding my feelings for Princess Jasmine (to this day, I still marvel at what pencil and fertile imagination have come up with). Reaching deep into the finances of the minimum wage short order cook that I was, I opted to have a little fun and see how many "Jasmines" I could cross paths with.
Over the course of the visit, I wound up meeting three of her; one in each park. Actually made a pretty good impression on the gal in the Moroccan section at EPCOT, and wow--she was the one to make an impression with out of the Princesses, and it sure was nice to be remembered on future visits.
Out of the experience, Jasmines or not, a dozen red roses will get a boy into all kinds of interesting conversations, and help you to meet all kinds of interesting people, with absolutely no effort on the part of the kid with the flowers (all kindsa stories out of these moments).
I honestly haven't gone Princess-chasing in years now, since my Jasmine seems to have moved on (Janine, if you're out there sweetheart, drop this kid a line--missin' you loads), but roses still come in handy in the parks. Even with the perma-smile fixed firmly on the face, you can usually tell when a good CM is having a pretty crummy shift. If there's a chance that a rose from a stranger can help make the smile genuine for at least a little while, well........Jas would never notice one missing.
(Travel tip--those long plastic yardglass containers they sell at certain refreshment carts make the best vases I know of for this kind of thing. They're good and comfortable in the hand when you're looking forward to a long day of carrying it around.)
What a great way to give a cast member a "thank you" and help to maker their day a little brighter.Originally Posted by Conceited Ape

Unruly four-year olds? Nah, nothing so dramatic. The little folder is something that I've taken to carrying pretty much like I would my keys or wallet--too many times, I've been in situations where something sharp would've come in handy, and I've been on the scene of a vehicle accident where it was necessary to cut through a seat belt (it only takes once to make you realize how valuable the little tool can be).
And at Disney World, we're in seatbelts a lot. While I'd trust the CMs at the controls with my life much sooner than I would any given driver on the Florida highways, if worse comes to worse and we're on a ride with belts that can be cut and we've gotta bug out, it'd pay to have the ability (paranoia is just another word for longevity).
A 3" folder is pretty much the standard legal limit in most places in the US, but by all means, check out your local rules and regs before you take to carrying anything, and be sure to look up every definition for the thing as you can think of (a "knife" is a tool that can function as a weapon, whereas a dagger is a stone-cold weapon, and its only purpose is to cut people into tiny little ribbons; for example. Yeah, the law has a lot of loopholes like that). Some useless trivia for you on this one--maybe it's changed by now, but last time I checked, carrying a concealed hangun in Los Angeles is a misdemeanor, but carrying a concealed blade is a felony (the idea is that nice people don't carry knives).
Only Jake...Only Jake..-thats all i got to say about Jasmine and seatbelts..
He won't win the MVP or be voted into the Hall of Fame........then again, some heroes don't play games.
