Open VMK

So, I saw someone on Tumblr post recently about a group of people who are "recreating" (I use the term loosely, of course) VMK.

It will probably stink as it's just a bunch of guys trying to recode everything, but I though it might be worth a shot to just see. I got in early and the Alpha is supposed to start this month sometime.

I'll review it if you'd like, if it ends up actually being anything.

There are some developers that did this same thing for Star Wars Galaxies. I played SWG from the very beginning and stopped after they changed the game play system. These guys took apart the codes and re-wrote them and apparently have remade the game into the original type. I'm sure VMK could resurrected the same way.

I'd love it if this worked. It was a great way to pass the time but not so involved that I couldn't multi-task while doing it.

OpenVMK update:

I got into the Alpha, however the game was supposed to be open today from 9am-12pm central for testing. Yet, the whole thing crashed. Didn't work at all. I hear some people got in the game, but that was it.

And the guy who created it/runs it is on vacation and says "Sorry" there's nothing I can do until next week. Site is completely gone.

Looks like he might be a kid. Blaming everyone under the sun on Twitter and attacking other online game creators.

Yeah, I have less hope than I did before.

I managed to get them to allow me to have a test account (long story - included lots of begging). Anyway... when I try to login it says my account doesn't have game access so who knows.

There's a list of who's allowed in the Alpha. I'm actually in it as I type this, taking screen shots. It's very very basic, but the rooms look exactly like before. No sound or animation yet and my poor little character is naked, lol. I'll post shots soon.

Thats all for now. Not all rooms are open/accessible. No games yet. No sounds or animation aside from Esmeralda that I can see.

Are you on this list? openVMK : Alpha List The "head guy" is oVMK_nick on Twitter, if you're able to tweet him.

Right now all you can do is "walk" from room to room. You don't walk, you just glide sort of and there's nothing that's not available to stand on, including walls, lol. It's pretty boring, but my hopes are slightly restored.

Yeah, I'm on the list for the beta and they were adding more people each week. It's been down for months though. I have a funny feeling some sort of copyright kicked in and they were booted.
