    Steve Jobs 1955-2011

I'm sure everyone has heard by now, but Steve Jobs has passed away.

Here is a word from Bob Iger on his passing:
"Steve was such an 'original,' with a thoroughly creative, imaginative mind that defined an era. Despite all he accomplished, it feels like he was just getting started. With his passing the world has lost a rare original, Disney has lost a member of our family, and I have lost a great friend."

I thought it would be nice to talk about what all will we -in the Disney community- remember Steve for?

Certainly for Disney fans he will be most remembered for Pixar.

I wonder how people will feel when they ride past that one section of Spaceship Earth. You know, the one about guys working in their garages to create the personal computer.

That's the first thing I thought about when I heard last night. He was truly an innovator and I believe he has left a legacy that will never be forgotten.

I like Obama's statement: "The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented."

    So true.

    A great loss indeed.

The DNA of Apple, Pixar and Disney are closely intertwined. Apple's loss is Disney's loss too.

Such a sad day for the world...it is hard to picture Steve Jobs as an actual person because he has been such an iconic and pertinent part of our society for the past (at least) 30 years.

RIP Steve Jobs, you're brilliance and charisma will be missed, but your legacy and inspiration lives on <3

Folks may disagree with me, but the more I learn about Jobs the more I compare him to Walt Disney. Quite a visionary who leaves behind a legacy of essentially creating an entirely new industry.

He has a large and loyal following. He continually created products that his admirers loved, but everyone else simply didn't get.

He always took great pains to give his customers a high quality product that "non-believers" claimed were "too expensive".

And his products are often duplicated, but never replicated.

I'm a recent Apple convert so I hold no religious-type fervor for the guy like many have. But, I can certainly appreciate why they did now that I've gotten a taste of some of the products he and his company produced.

I completely agree. I am constantly telling people (and considering myself) that this must have been at least somewhat what it was like when Walt passed away. In both cases, they both kind of knew they were about to be leaving for good. Walt told people "goodbye" after meetings in which he had never done before. Steve resigned as CEO as to make transitions in the company before he knew he was about to leave.

Genius for an American company that brought eletronics and computers from the US back to prominence, even before Microsoft. Ahead of his time.

Well, I don't know that you can say "back" to prominence. Most folks had never even seen a computer before Apple and Microsoft started the home computer revolution.

I remember him best for believing in Pixar when they were struggling.
