I hope you can all help!!
I have a daughter who loves Disney! She is willing to give up a softball related college scholarship to do the Disney College Program!!!
I support her in whatever decision she makes! It's her life and I just want her to be happy! Does she have to attend a specific college to do the program? She will be a Senior in High School next year and is trying to get things lined up for herself.
She is really into Character design and entertainment! She would love to some day just work for Disney.

Re: I hope you can all help!!
I'm not sure if your daughter is opting to postpone college to go into the college program, but you both may want to check out the link below for requirements. She can apply while still a high school senior, but she must be enrolled in a college before being accepted, and she'll have to complete one semester of college.

Re: I hope you can all help!!
She is going to go away to college, but she thought she only could go to a college that participates in the program. I wasn't sure if that was true or not. If it is do you know if there is a list of the colleges that do participate in the program?
She wants to get a degree at college, but wants to do this really bad and hopes some day to work for Disney permanently. She loves softball, but it can't compete with Disney!

You don't have to go to a specific school in order to do the CP. Any school would work.
Oh, and welcome to the boards!

Re: I hope you can all help!!
so i am actually in a college that doesn't "participate" in the program. At my school I am taking a leave of absence for the semester I am attending the program. As a softball player i would suggest she do the fall program so that she can keep playin ball. these two choices are not mutually exclusive. It may be difficult to get credit but that only means that you get a little extra time in school and with 5 years of eligibility at NCAA schools she can actually maybe play longer. Look at all of your school requirements and talk to the coach(after you get there).

Re: I hope you can all help!!
She might want to wait until she's completed at least a year of college to go. The college program opens up alot of doors for internships and future employment. I'm holding out another year until my junior year to go. Make sure she knows what she wants. When I wanted to learn more about it, I watched the e-presentation at wdwcollegeprogram.com. Then I attended the presentation held at my school. I'm sure if you have any other questions, you can e-mail them at wdw.college.recruiting@disney.com and they'll answer you promptly.

Your daughter may also want to look into the CareerStart Program that is offered too. You can find more info at: The Disney CareerStart Program

Re: I hope you can all help!!
I am a freshman at UT right now, and I plan to do the college program my Junior and senior years. I think she would get more out the program if she waits until after her first few years of just college. As a former softball player I would have loved to continue playing in college!! If your daughter is good enough to recieve a scholarship I would hope that she would play. You can only play ball for a few years, but the Disney company and her future career plans will still be there.
If she wants she can even do the college program after she graduates from college as long as she does it within a year of being enrolled in a semester of college.
I hope this is helpful! Whatever she decides it looks like she sounds like a girl with a bright future and some big plans for herself.

Re: I hope you can all help!!
Thank you so much for the advice and help! I will pass all the information along! We did talk more about it last night and she plans on going over more of the information tonight. He biggest thing is she always said she felt this was an opportunity of a life time and didn't want to pass it up. When she talks about Disney she has this amazing sparkle in her eyes. When I read your posts I can tell it's that same passion she has. Every time we go to the Magic Kingdom the last thing she does before she walks out is touch the castle! She would never leave with out doing it. She always says it's a place where people can escape from the rest of the world and just have fun! She always says it's the place of smiling faces!!

Re: I hope you can all help!!
Like mentioned above, your daughter can attend any college and still participate in the college program. However, if she plans on taking Disney's college courses while on the college program, she may want to find a school that those credits will transfer over to. Taking the college courses is not mandatory, but it is helpful to still get some credits in on her semester "off." Not all schools accept those credits, but there are some that do.

Actually, the CP can only be done up to the semester after graduating. For example, if you graduate in May 2009, the latest you can do the CP is Fall/Fall Advantage 2009 (May or Aug 2009 until Jan 2010).
