What are you auditioning for?
Hi everyone!
I was just wondering if anyone knew about the basic setup of the auditions? I'll be going during school (obviously) and was trying to get an idea of how many days long they are, if they're in the middle of the week or on weekends, how often, etc.
Thank you!
PS Less than a month til we apply! Ahh!!
What are you auditioning for?
My daughter auditioned to be one of the princess in June. The audition started at 1:00 and she finished at 6:30. They started with over 200 girls ( for 3 positions), and the girls were put through diffrent dance routines they kept reducing the amount of girls until they finished with 5 (there was only 3 positions so they probably cut it down further to 3, but we left before then). Unfortunately my daughter was not one of the five but she did make it to the final cut. she said it was an awsome experience and can't wait to audition again. the audition took place on a tuesday. Good luck and live your dream.

It may be different for other parts, but when I went to the audition back home (Chicago,) the setup was this: First, we checked in with the people at the desk. (Our area recruiter was present, so I spoke with him for awhile.) If you have a professional headshot and/or resume, as I did and do, then you can give them to the people at the desk. They give you a number that is worn on your shirt, and you wait in line. When your number is up, you stand straight against a wall, where they'll take your height. After that's done, the fun starts. They'll give you some basic info. What they're looking for is people who stand out. You don't have to be perfect at the routine. In fact, they said that they've hired such people because they had fun, and did things that set them apart from everyone else. Don't worry if you feel silly and nervous; everyone feels that way at the audition. That's the point. They want to see how you react outside of your comfort zone. You'll practice a routine that they show you for about 2 hours. Then, they'll have everybody file out of the room, and stand in a line outside of another room. You'll go in 6 at a time, where they'll have you do the routine one more time. This is the real thing. This is your audition. Once you're done, you'll go back outside if the room, where your area recruiter will ask if you're going to interview for the regular College Program, or if you've already have. If you say yes, then he/she will give you a sheet that tells you when you should hear the results of your audition.
That's the process. as I said, it may vary based on location, although it shouldn't too much. An audition is an audition, and they all follow some basic pattern. Good luck.

I am Auditioning in October 2010, which is in less than two months. for the spring advantage in 2011, which i would leave for late january. I was wondering lots of sites have different info but none have been updated since 2006 or 2008. Do we need sheet music? Are we even singing? Do we NEED a reseme or headshot?
I know we have to dance and characterization, which is technically pantomime. do i need to know anything else?
No, a resume and/or headshot is not needed. There are forms for you to fill out, and they do take a picture of you. I brought both because I'm an actor. Simple as that.

You would not be singing, since all singing roles are equity (and CPs do not do equity).
That's all the audition is- dance and animation. Sometimes people will get called back for a puppet audition. And in the past, sometimes people were called back to get looked at for face (I heard they stopped doing that at the auditions, and all of that was done in FL).

ohh ok, makes sense... what is equity?
So we can bring headshots and resume? bc i have them, im an actress and have lots just around my room
Equity is AEA, or the Actors Equity Association. It is the union for professional theater actors. If you wish to gain experience as a thespian, and currently do not have a lot, do NOT join the union. I say this because doing so would quite possibly be a death sentence for your theater career, unless you happen to get VERY lucky.
If you have an H/R, then by all means, bring them. I always carry mine around, as I never know when I'll need them. I also have it up on a site, and someone contacted me today about an audition for a movie!
Good luck with the audition.![]()

ohhh ok! well thats cool! im a thespian, both state and national qualifier two years in a row... but im kinda looking into different things now
is there any tips or anything you have for auditions? things i should wear? not wear, bring, like lunch and water?
Wear something comfortable, because you'll be moving around a lot.
You don't have time for lunch, as you'll be spending your "free time" practicing the routine that you will be taught at the audition. Water is a different story. I highly suggest bring something to keep you hydrated. It can get pretty warm in that recital hall with all those people. The audition I attended here in Chicago had at least 5 dozen people in a recital hall. Combine that with the workout, and many people were sweating. Water is your friend.
