Mickey Hat Closed for Updates

Well it seems we had another piece of news on the site that came true, new effects are coming to the Sorcerer's Hat at the Disney MGM Studios. In the second [and third] pic, you can see how they get inside the hat to work on the project.

Stupid question....but what is in the Mickey Hat? I haven't been there since the hat was added.

It was added for the millennium celebration. It had trivia kiosks and a pin shop inside it. I really am not impressed with the hat. I liked the theater being the wennie, but from Lou's explanation on the last podcast, I now understand why it's really there...don't mean I like though. The last time I was in it was for pins only. I don't know if the trivia stuff was still there.

yeah i wonder what that is going to be there was rumor of a meet and greet character place but then why would they be working on the inside?? kinda stinks if you are on vaca right now not to good for pics lol

I think they have it closed for the new lighting effects they are putting in the hat.

I think the hat is a wonderful 'icon' for this park. Epcot has the ball, MK has the castle, AK has the Tree of Life...everyone on the planet knows what that hat is, and I like it as MGM's officla image. I loko forward to the new effects

Does anyone have any word on when the refurb on the hat is going to be done? I'm trying to keep tabs on everything that will be shut down or blocked off when we go so that when we get down there I won't be surprised and sad, haha.

I think they should put the wand with the hat. it seems a better fit to me...and yes, im thrilled looking at a bare SSE!!!

They are adding new lighing effects, such as fiber optics, to the hat.
