I haven't seen the Monitor (for some reason I never got signed up for that when I got my AP... not sure what I did differently than my former roomie, because we bought our passes together, and he gets the newsletter while I don't), but I did see a video about them that someone posted on here a couple weeks ago. The concept model looked phenomenal, and I liked that they said they were going to try to paint the strings to match the castle's colors so they aren't too visible during the day, but having seen them up close now this past weekend, even with this color camouflage, they still stick out something awful I think. I can't wait to see them at night, but I'm really not crazy about their daytime look.

I actually have the opposite opinion of you Don. I think they did great camouflaging them from far way. I mean, those things could be an eye-sore way down mainstreet, but I found you have to get fairly close to look and see them! So I think they did a great job. Yes, nearby you can definitelly tell there are lights on the castle, but you definitely have to look hard to see them unless you are up close. I'm just thankful you can't see them all the way down mainstreet!

Does anyone know how long the lights will be up for? LIke, are they just a Christmas thing, or are they more of a winter thing? I'm also curious as to the answer to the question that a few people have posed - whether or not the lights will only be on for MVMCP or if they'll be on every night.

This is a guess, but since disney is spending all that time and MONEY on the lights... They will be on nightly. I mean, why put something up if you will only use it select nights?

I hope they'll be on nightly - I totally agree on the expense thing. I guess I'm wondering if they'll be taken down after Christmas or if they'll be up for the "wintry" season. (I'm eyeballing a January or February trip, so I'm hoping they'll be up for the wintry season. I kinda doubt it, but I'm hoping anyway!)

Well maybe it's just me then, but I spend a great deal of time up close and inspecting the castle on most of my trips, so I found it a bit strange to look up and see what appeared to be a cargo net (which was actually the countless dozens of strings of lights) draped down over parts of it. You're absolutely right about the lights being invisible from a distance. I didn't spot them until I got all the way up to the hub. I'm very glad they didn't just do like they do for the Osbourne lights and let them hang there visible and in plain sight from a mile away. And I do think that they will look amazing at night once they are turned on. They aren't an awful intrusion during the daytime, so I'm not really complaining, I just think they look a bit strange. And honestly, most people who only look at the castle from a distance as they are entering the park, or who run past it on their way to Adventureland or Tomorrowland probably wont even notice them. But for a castle-watcher like myself... they are a bit funny looking.

True, and I understand that. I just basically wanted to clarify that you couldn't see them from far away for a few people. :-)
