Because he past away. Slink is voiced by Jim Varney. He is most know for is roles as Ernest goes to... and also the Beverly hillbillies movie. I think he had a heart attack.

Pixar is making the movie. Pixar is now part of the Disney company but not totally run by Disney. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will be back as will: John Ratzenberger as know-it-all piggy bank Hamm, Wallace Shawn as nervous dinosaur Rex, Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head, Estelle Harris as Mrs. Potato Head, Joan Cusack as the energetic cowgirl Jessie, Annie Potts as the porcelain Bo Peep, R. Lee Ermey as the authoritative Sarge, and Laurie Metcalf as Andy's Mom. At least two parts will need to either be written out or recast in light of the premature deaths of Jim Varney (Slinky Dog) and Joe Ranft (Wheezy the Penguin).

So at this time that is all Disney/Pixar has released.

I have always enjoyed the Toy Story movies and now that I have a three year old, I am enjoying them even more! By the time TS3 comes out, she will be the perfect age to go and see it in the movie theater!

I hadn't heard that there was going to be a third movie. Will this be a theatrical release or a 'straight to DVD' release? (Oh please let it be a theatrical release...the 'straight to DVD' releases don't seem to amount to much...)

It'll be in the theaters I'm pretty sure. Pixar type animation movies seem to be big money makers in the theaters.
