Splash Mountain

I'm a little behind on the podcast and such ever since starting doctorate school...but I was wondering if everyone heard the news on what is being added to Splash Mountain? Apparently, there are going to be lap bars when the attraction opens back up...interesting news since the attraction has been open for so long.

Re: Splash Mountain

Nothing has been mentioned on the podcast, but since the refurb is only about a month, I would not expect anything major. Most likely just standard maintainance and repainting.

Re: Splash Mountain

I had not heard anything about changes to ride vehicles. I thought they were just going to tocuh up paint and clean the "canals".

Re: Splash Mountain

Same here...I haven't heard a single rumor at all about any changes. I think it is in need of a MAJOR mechanical overhaul however...the breakdowns are too often...

Re: Splash Mountain

I did a little digging, and there was a rumor circulating last spring that WDW might get new logs within the next couple years that could include some lap restraint of some form...but that was the last reference I could find other than random forum posts.

Given the testing that would have to be done, I'd probably expect a longer downtime...is the planned maintenance in line with previous winter work done on SM?

Re: Splash Mountain

Cool!!! I am a Ph.D. candidate in biochemistry at Texas A&M. Just hoping I'll be done sometime soon. Someone once asked me How long it will take me to finish, and I said 4-7 years, depending. Then they said "wow, sounds like a prison sentence!"

Re: Splash Mountain

This makes me mad! Splash mountain is my all time favorite ride at WDW and it is going to be closed when I go in January! It was also closed last time I went two years ago! I wish they could move the rehab dates.

Re: Splash Mountain

It starts some time in the begining of January and ends at the end febuary. I would check the WDW website for more details. I wonder what they are going to do to it. It is going to be closed for a whole two months!

Re: Splash Mountain

That is a longer than normal refurb for Splash Mtn. I have been the past two Januarys and it was closed for about 3 weeks each time. This past January it reopened in the last couple of days of the month. Closing all of January and all of February is rather long comparing the history of past refurbs. Sounds like a much more extensive plan of action. The past 2 Januarys they seemed to be cleaning, painting and general maintanance.

Re: Splash Mountain

Yup...I didn't realize it was covering February as well. So yes, more than the usual is to be done.

Re: Splash Mountain

I would say yes it will be up in March. I personally could not be happier it's being refurbed. On my last ride through in October I noticed several pieces of gum stuck on the walls, I also got the liberty of watching some Teenagers whipping stuff at the characters. Unfortunately refurbs happen so often because of these types of ignorant people. Makes me sad, but Disney can't control everyone.
