Lights of Winter @ Epcot Officially Retired!

Sad news everyone...According to the Disney Parks Twitter:

The Lights of Winter at Epcot has been enjoyed for years. But (technology) to operate the lights is obsolete, prompting us to retire the lights.

That's right! No more Lights of Winter at Epcot!

Also according to the Twitter:

Debuting at this year’s Holidays Around the World at Epcot is a new gospel choir, “D’Vine Voices” – Nov. 27 through Dec. 26.

I am so sad. I have so many pictures of my kids and my entire extended family around The Lights of Winter. Well at least I have those.

Anyone hear what if anything, Disney will put in that walkway?

Getting the idea it was a malfunction they could not get fixed, it is an awful late announcement. This was EchoScot's baileywick, wonder what happened to him?

Re: Lights of Winter @ Epcot Officially Retired!

I am devastated !!!! that was my favorite thing to do at Xmas!! In fact, I dragged my 3 small kids down to WDW last Dec for 4 days and MADE them sit and watch the Lights of Winter ... the 6 yo complaining the whole time -- told him to be quiet and let mommy enjoy the moment... I noticed there would be blocks of lights that wouldn't work ... I am sooooo sad! Now I'm really glad I went last year --- the best thing was to sit in front of the water "thingy" that dances to music and water and see the Lights and the Tree behind them at the same time... this little mouse is very sad ...

Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! We absolutely love this display! I am so sad to see it go! I'm happy that we got so many great shots of it last December.

Re: Lights of Winter @ Epcot Officially Retired!

This was one of my prime reasons to spend the evening at Epcot. This year I only have one day to enjoy WDW Christmas, so I'll have to spend it in another park.

Re: Lights of Winter @ Epcot Officially Retired!

!! I used to love the lights of winter! That plaza will be so empty without them!! I really hope they put another display like the lights of winter in...maybe with LEDs?

Re: Lights of Winter @ Epcot Officially Retired!

I bet with the Disney Green Initiative that these were obsoulete. I bet they are going to work on something with LEDs for next year. I agree that it is sad to see it go as this version.I remember on my honeymoon there my wife and I had someone take our pic in front of it.

I'll be there a week from tomorrow, so it'll be interesting to see what they put in that area. I'm sure they'll light it up somehow leading up to the Epcot tree.

Re: Lights of Winter @ Epcot Officially Retired!

I plan to drop by Guest Relations and fill out a comment card complaining on this one.

I don't mind changes, but this one I don't like and the "Excuse" LOL! Lighting technology has gotten much cheaper etc. They just don't want to "pay" and wanted an excuse!

That's what I was thinking. I mean, it's Disney! We're supposed to believe they can design and build innovative state-of-the-art rides and shows but are stumped by some Christmas lights? Get real.
