| Re: Golden Oak Neighborhood In this economy, to read of building something this exclusive, just sickens me. And to have it Disney makes it worse. My husband has been out of work over 2 years and I've been out of work 1.5 years. No WDW for us til jobs are found. Reading about this neighborhood makes me mad. Who has money for something like that? Certainly not people up here in the northeast. Maybe the athletes who make their millions of dollars can move in - after big announcement that they're going to Disney World. ![]() |

| Re: Golden Oak Neighborhood I know about the Reedy Creek Improvement District, but it doesn't make sense to me. Can someone please explain RCID like you were trying to explain it to a 4 year old please?

| Fastpass Holder | Re: Golden Oak Neighborhood Well, I don't know as much about it as I should. But from what I understand, Walt wanted total control over what went on in his world. So he set up a government of it's own. I've always guessed that an "improvement district" (which I've never heard of anywhere else) was a special form of government incorporation that the State of Florida developed for him. Now that could be all wrong and I'm hoping someone with a bit more knowledge will correct me if so.

| Re: Golden Oak Neighborhood I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand it seems really cool and would be amazing to live on WDW property and be so close to everything, on the other hand I have a feeling that the majority of us Disney nuts don't have the finances to live somewhere with that price tag. I'm not sure who these homes are targeted towards, but hey I guess it's something I can aim for......oh wait, I'm going to be an educator.....

| Fastpass Holder | Re: Golden Oak Neighborhood Now if we would just get our priorities right and switch the salaries of the teachers and the sports stars you'd be set, right? But congratulations anyway! I always thought about teaching. I do enjoy the teaching part (maybe that's why I've spent so much time in Scouting) but I don't have the patience for all the rest of the horse-hockey that you have to put up with. Best of luck!

| Re: Golden Oak Neighborhood Has anyone driven by the site? Where it is, I think it is not far from Port Orleans. I just hope that we won't be able to see any of it from the road. Bury it all back behind the trees. I have had to come to terms with how this seems contrary to any of the plans for Walt Disney World. Yes, it is true that Walt wanted to have a couple communities. He wanted them under Disney control, though. I doubt that he would've wanted this. I'm not even convinced that Roy O. Disney would've gone for this. Of course, there are all kinds of shenanigans, that have happened since Roy O. Disney died, that would break his heart after the way he essentially killed himself to get Phase 1 completed. |

| Re: Golden Oak Neighborhood It is across Vista Blvd from the northern reaches of POR. There are trees on either side of the road, so you aren't likely to see anything, really. And it would just be the entrance - the development stretches way back from there. Depending on the actual plans for the Four Seasons resort and how tall it would be, you MIGHT be able to see it from some of the buildings. But they still have to actually build it.

| Re: Golden Oak Neighborhood I didn't mean seeing it from the rooms, I am not even keen on seeing any of it from the road. I wish I had taken a picture of it, because I have not yet found any photos online. At the time we were in a bit of a hurry though, so we moved on. I was surprised with how obvious it was, though, when people had been trying to tell me it was buried off somewhere on a portion of the property where guests wouldn't normally see it. |

| Re: Golden Oak Neighborhood The only things that are visible from the road so far are an entrance facade and a front office building - and I believe they are for the Four Seasons resort. Remember, there are TWO things going in there. Golden Oak is part of it, and it will be set further back. It shares the entrance roadway though, at least at this point.

| Re: Golden Oak Neighborhood What about another shopping area or a new park or a trampoline complex. I dunno, I'm running out of ideas myself.
