Re: POTC catches on fire!!

Seems to me like it wasn't really as big as it may have seemed...I've found no reports at all...

DD is back from the World, they were on the ride Friday night. Did know anything of the fire at all. So glad it wasn't a bad one

Re: POTC catches on fire!!

Just a theory here, but as a former theatrical light designer, if something falls onto one of the lights used for illuminating the scene, it can catch fire pretty quickly. I immediately thought of the lights used to create the fire effects in the final town sequence - if one of those bolts of fabric came loose and fell on top of the lights shooting up from the floor, yep, it would probably catch fire and let off a bunch of smoke.

I had something like this happen on a dance show I was doing lights for a number of years ago. One of the dancers knocked the nice thick red proscenium curtain in front of a vertical pole with lights and it started smoking within a minute.

The danger here would have been what the flames from the fabric would catch on fire. Glad POTC is still with us and no one got hurt!

Re: POTC catches on fire!!

That is a very good answer, I never thought of that one. I just know Disney checks everything twice from all the stories I hear. Yes so glad all is well.

Re: POTC catches on fire!!

If it was in the town scene with the fake fire, one of the lights probably overheated and caught one of the strips of fabric on fire -- if it wasn't a large enough fire to shut the ride down, then that's probably the case.

Re: POTC catches on fire!!

No fire is every a small fire when people are in a building. I, for a short time lived in the City of Chicago, where I was born, in a neighborhood called Humbolt Park. This was at the time an Irish neighborhood which is now know and sadly remembered for a school best known for the parish Our Lady of the Angels school fire, which occurred on December 1, 1958. The fire killed 92 students and three nuns.

This led to fire safety consciousness in private and public schools in the United States.

Any fire big or small needs to be taken seriously and reported and investigated by the proper authorities. You should always be able to find a record of a fire. Just because there are powerful corporations doesn't mean that there should not be a record or an investigation to eliminate the possibility of it happening again. Our Lady of the Angels was a fine example of that. My Dad attended Our Lady of the Angels, he lives with 92 Alumni that made an early exit to heaven.

yes there are escape emergency routes on everything, including pirates. it involves cast members putting on some nice rubber pants and pushing the boats to each of the designated spots to exit, but there definitely is an exit plan.

Re: POTC catches on fire!!

Everytime I get on that thing, a fire breaks out. There's also a whole bunch of drunks hanging out down there. I thought we were supposed to get safe family entertainment at Disney!
