POTC catches on fire!!

Friday, June 25th the POTC ride caught on fire at Walt Disney World. My family and I were actually on it as this happened. The ride started out normal but after the pirate ship scene I noticed a strong burning smell and a lot of smoke up in the air that I knew wasn't normal. Then the lights on the ride came on...in the town scene there was a real fire burning next to one of the shops. It was a pretty descent size fire. The lights came on and there was heavy smoke, but oddly that was it. No announcements or alarms...the ride continued with the lights on and no audio. We saw some cast members come scrambling in running around on the bridge overhead and people were shouting to them where the fire was....they had no idea what was happening. I found this strange. But it was a very interesting experience none the less. I never did find out what exactly happened. It was closed for the remainder of the day that I saw, with cast members out from playing with fake pirate swords in Disney's "everything is just fine" fasion. If anyone else saw this or has news please let me know!!!

DD was there Friday but earlier in the day and didn't mention it and later at night. She comes home tomorrow so I will check with her.

Wow! You would think that there would be alarms, sprinklers, or SOMETHING going off. That could have gotten so far out of control before they did anything about it. They better check on that.

I'll wait until I see a story on this before jumping to conclusions. If it were any major fire, guests would be evacuated somehow. I know it's a water ride, but shouldn't there be some safe way to get people out of the buidling? Probably just a tiny flare-up, especially if Disney had their high school-aged staff members putting it out and not the on-site fire department.

well I only saw the regular cast members running around...I didn't get to see who actually put it out. It wasn't that big of a fire, but it was really starting to get bigger and was burning intensely. I would guess we will never know what happened. I'm sure their is an exit plan..I was thinking about it as we were floating along and I didn't see anything close, so I was assuming escaping would mean getting kinda wet haha.

I have checked every Disney site that I am a member of and a couple of which I am not and I have seen no mention of this fire anywhere. There is one site known as '"board x" that if something had happened, the thread would have had hundreds of posts already.

I am saying it is unlikely it didn't happen, and I think someone who was on that ride when it occurred would've posted it to a forum much like this OP did.

haha...well I assure you it happened. I would guess at least 15 boats went by it too. My wife was not quick enough with the camera, but others did take pictures. It will surface somewhere. This happened Friday, hopefully somone with a picture is just still on vacation and will upload it when they get back. what does OP mean
