Talking Re: "TTA" renamed to "Peoplemover"

Curious?

Wondering why they would do this?
I like it but question the motive.
Is it that the TTA was not doing well or was it due to complaints from all of us that are not crazy about the new narration?

If they are bending to our will, maybe we should ask for Horizons back!

Re: "TTA" renamed to "Peoplemover"

To me disney is desperately scrambling at straws to bring anything and everything to counteract HP. From parades of yester-year, name changes, old shows etc. Panic, loosing a day or two to HP.

Oddly enough the imagineers are still misisng the mark. By the posts on other threads here so many are still lookinging to get a glimps of HP.
FL plans slipping away, Fairy*s poor imagineer competition for HP draw.

Duh! While a fairy has a draw for a small population of Disney guests it is such a small fraction of the Disney guests. Surprised at that mis-calculation of the imagineers.

are you really surprised...? why are the imagineers missing the mark...? lets see...

1. Guys like John Hench, Marty Sklar and Bob Gurr (real Imagineers) arent around anymore in imagineering...
2. John Lasseter is in charge of the creative aspect of the parks... HE WAS A JUNGLE CRUISE CAPTAIN...! hes a great director... kudos for what he did to Pixar... but how does that make him qualified to create attractions for the parks...?
3. Disney doesnt have as much to market as they once did...
4. What they do market tends to be gender biased... ether all girls (Princesses) or mostly all boys (Pirates)
5. They tend to be in defense mode... lets see what Universal does and then we will counteract it... oh wait... Universal did something real good... we're doomed...
6. Universal for years has been dropping the ball... so it has always made Disney look like stars... now they finally get it right.. and Disney looks like the guy at the restaurant left holding the bill...

i think it was the original narration... it had more of a feel to what we have today... if i remember correctly... i only heard it once and i think i was about 8 when i heard it... but i do remember it being less like a train going from station to station as the TTA was... and more like a Tomorrowland tour...

Excellent points.
1. I've contacted Sklar and Gurr. Is Hench still around? One more to add.
But I digress. Hopefully the new Imagineers, led by the now Sr. VP of Creative, Joe Rohde, are all Disney fans at heart. At least Rohde is over 40. The new blood, while fans, probably weren't around when the parks of old were operating, the way we remember them. Someone needs to guide them through Walt's vision, which is why had they kept Sklar round well past retirement age.

2. Lasseter was consulted by Disney to give Tangled a more Pixar-feel. Disney realized they were losing their touch, so they turned to someone who clearly knew how to give his movies emotion. I'm still glad they changed the title from Rapunzel to Tangled. Another princess-named film, another flop, a la Princess & the Frog. The boys would have steered clear.

3. Obviously not. Take a lot at the Disney Stores in our malls... junk galore. The movies they do try to market never do well. Visit a Disney Outlet store and take advantage of the ridiculosly low prices on Wall-E and Ratatoullie action figures. WTF??

4. Their merchandise really has just boiled down to those two areas, hasn't it? I used to love the villains shop in MGM, but they quickly turned it into nothing but Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise (that didn't fit into anywhere else in the other parks, I guess), and now is slowly becoming pirate stuff.

5 & 6. I thought Spiderman and the Simpsons rides were excellently-created. But they didn't have the sweeping impact Universal needed. I don't know how long these Harry Potter books will sustain (eventually something new will catch on... and hopefully this Twilight nonsense will fade away real soon, too). But for now, HP Land is a hit. The trouble Universal has is that they tend to go with the "today", which causes the appeal of their rides to fade over time. Back to the Future, ET, Twister... these have all had their moments. Then again, we're talking about a park that still has Doc Brown, the Ghostbusters, and Woody Woodpecker making appearances daily.

Same here. It wasn't the TTA, but a 'peoplemover'. So I remember the voiceover simply explaining the attraction you were passing. And even then, I only remember bits of the spiel for the speedway.

that is exactly their problem... they let whats "in" take control of their parks... i.e. Fievel's Playland... and then when the fad is over... no one visits the parks anymore...

Re: "TTA" renamed to "Peoplemover"

I would think the majority of people visiting MK have no clue what the name of the ride is and adding Peoplemover to the name will really add nothing to the general impression of the attraction. It's clearly a nod to the past that WDW Operations realizes will be appreciated by the fans.

Overall I enjoyed the updated ride, and the narration was just fine to me. Nice to hear a fresh approach and it was less overbearing when you are chatting with those you are traveling with. To me the Peoplemover will always be more of a respite than a ride, taking a break from running around the park and people watching.

Sorry... John Hench is unfortunately not going to be added to your list... he passed away in 2004... he actually worked about 3 days week up until a few weeks before he died...

I loved the old narration...but don't you think the new narration has grown on you?

Re: "TTA" renamed to "Peoplemover"

it has started to... it does remind me a bit of the old past version Supernova and i are reminiscing about... i need another trip to really get used to it... i was there staying with family last year and heard it once... it will take some getting used to... but i do remember the backlash when the TTA opened in 94'...

Re: "TTA" renamed to "Peoplemover"

Hm... I'm young enough to not remember it as anything but the TTA. I mean, if it was called something else when I was younger than I just didn't know what it was called (or more likely, my family didn't ride it). It changed in 94? Ya I had only been once before 94 to Disney World and I was 3 years old. I'm probably going to call it the TTA for a long time just cause to me, that's what it is... just like all of you called it the peoplemover for a long time after it was the TTA.
