Wow surprised to see the ring. So wonder what the official story line is now from Disney about it since they officially said before there was no such thing/story. Interesting seeing how Guests can change a ride.

Disney never denied its existence. They just said it wasn't a ring, but a part of an original canopy pole. Who knows. But at the end of the day, did ever much matter if there's a ring in the cement or not?

The recent images of the ring look different than what was originally there.

The old "ring" looks like it may have been a small width steel pole, with another piece of steel adjacent to it, like a shim or a spike, and both were cut off at the pavement level.

Now, the "stone" part of the ring looks like an actual stone setting.

So it could be that Imagineering is embellishing based on guest stories...

Can't wait to see the updates! But, ummm... I s'pose I'll have to wait since I don't have a trip planned this year. *sigh*

Speaking of the ring outside HM.... I dug up a couple pics from a trip we took in July 2004. I found the ring outside the exit (at the end of the canopy) and took a couple pics. I received some strange looks since I was taking pics of the ground. Both have a black box around the ring to help locate it. Some of you may have seen these, but I'm guessing there are a few folks who may not have seen it before.

Interesting enough, the last couple times we've been, including May of 2010, the ring was gone. The stone had been replaced. I'd say the Imagineers recently decided they liked the idea of having it there, got a new ring, and stuck it in the ground.

Does anyone have a wider shot of the current ring to show where it's located? And hopefully without the trash can over it.
