Another Incident at Typhoon Lagoon

Typhoon Lagoon seems to have their share of creepity guests from time to time. The below article reminds us that just because our kids are teens and at Disney it isn't wise to drop your guard.

Girl sexually assaulted at Typhoon Lagoon

For the first time in two years, Typhoon Lagoon was the site of a reported sexual battery last Sunday, March 27, when Olmedo Ramirez, 41, from West Palm Beach, Florida, was arrested for attempting to molest a 14-year-old girl at Typhoon Lagoon. The unidentified girl was swimming in the wave pool with her mother, and repeatedly saw the man popping up near her. When her mother went to get some food at around 3:30 p.m., the man reportedly pulled her bathing suit bottom away from her body and put his hand inside. She spun around and saw the man.
The girl reported the incident to her parents and Typhoon Lagoon security staff, and identified the man. Ramirez was stopped by Orange County Sheriff's deputies as he was leaving the park with his family. He was arrested and charged with attempted sexual battery. Ramirez claims that he had been swimming with his son and did not touch the girl.
Ramirez was held on $15,000 bond.
During June and July of 2009, there were two unrelated incidents of sexual battery at Typhoon Lagoon. Both of those offenders were caught.

The saving grace in both of these water parks is guests have to make their way to the exit. If reported quickly they can get the creeps as they try to flee.

The common denominator to these assaults seems to be the wave pool. The pervs seem to gravitate to them. I guess they believe they can get lost in the crowd after they commit their crimes. Stay with your kids.

I think they use the wave pools as a convenient excuse - when the wave hits, they can claim that the force pushed them into someone else, they got tangled, etc.

Pools are in general a draw to these type of creeps. My son managed first a 3 pool & sprinkler facility. He was covering for a co-worker manager and I parked in the back until he could retrieve food I brought him. I noted a man who had brought a plastic chair close to the sprinklers. The dude keep hiking up the legs of his swim wear to bikini style. The sprinkler only had young kids in there yet none his. Called son on my cell and he closed the sprinkler area, it suddenly had a "problem".

Same pool, year before, dude taking pictures with cell in Family Locker Room. Everyone now gets buzzed into family room, outside there is a camera that takes their picture before they enter the locker room.

The son has been managing a water park for several years now, that family locker room is always an issue. Use caution and beware of those around you especially if they don't seem to have family with them. Teach those kids if they are uncomfortable with a guest tell a lifeguard, they have all been trained, sadly, with the protocol for potential creeps.
