If I had my FiL in his ECV staying at GF and found out that we'd have to take a bus back to the resort (the GF/Poly boat launches don't support HC access currently) from the MK, I'd be upset.
The only people I've ever found to be upset with ECVs are the large number of people who are left standing outside the bus waiting patiently (impatiently?) to get on while the driver is rigging up the ECV.
Really, Walt? Disneyland is MY land? Why would I want a silly little land when I can have the WORLD.

Try being the person in the ECV. It's not all pixie dust.
My FiL had an ECV on our last trip. On a couple occasions, the bus drivers seemed unhappy about the ECV and one was actually audibly and visibly aggravated that he had to deal with an ECV at all.
Sure, an ECV gets to the front of the line for a bus...but if there are several ECVs in line, even if the entire other line is short, you have to wait for another bus. They can't handle more than one or two. That happened to us as well - we actually didn't get on the bus with the people who arrived at the same time as us, having to wait for the next bus - which took a while to show up.
I drove him and the ECV to the parks whenever possible because dealing with the bus was a pain.

I could never imagine trying to get around in any sort of contraption while in the park, be it crutches, a wheelchair, or an ECV. It's bad enough with a stroller. The amount of pushing and crowding done at a park is ridiculous, and that is usually when you can look at the head in front of you. I've heard people behind me grumble because there was a space in front of me and they wanted to push ahead, and when they did they saw that we were all walking behind a family pushing a relative in a chair. Take your time, wait your turn, and if there appears to be a magical space that no one is populating at that moment, yeah, it's probably populated. Just chill, folks.

You're describing a world that doesn't exist anymore unfortunately. When I was pregnant we made a trip in the middle of August for my step-son (at the time he lived with his mother so when we did get him for a couple weeks, we took him to places he didn't get to go ordinarily). ANYWAY... by the 3rd day, my ankles were so swollen I couldn't walk normally (they wouldn't bend) so I went with a wheel chair. All it got us was dirty looks from people who are so impatient, and so not lost in the magic, that they apparently just assumed I was "faking" whatever ailment to get me to the front of the line. We're no longer in a world where people take things like that into account. It's very "me me me" and if that me is inconvenienced by having to wait to get on a bus etc. it's even worse.
Back to the topic at hand however... it seems to me that this does limit the options for guests to the point of questioning the sense of it but I'm holding onto the hope that it's temporary. I'll give Disney this much... they rarely will do something like this without later finding out there was a good reason for it after all.
Sometimes all you need is a reminder that out there lies a better place... a better world... a Walt Disney World.
