Yep I get the theming to the resorts. Caribbean at least got Pirates.
POR, Mansion....IMHO it should have been Haunted Mansion vs Princess.
Princess don't live in mansions they live in Castles.
They're not even "delightfully tacky". I'm liking this idea of themed rooms but to me, these are not themes. They just have elements of particular movies. Pixar movies mostly to be exact, from the pictures. All of the carpets pictured just clash with everything. Nothing flows at all.
But back to themed rooms. I don't get why there's a "Big Thunder Mountain" room in the Disneyland Hotel. While it's not as bad as if it were a "Big Thunder Mountain" room in, say, Port Orleans as the Disneyland Hotel doesn't really have a theme, shouldn't the rooms already be themed to their environments? I think the rooms at Port Orleans French Quarter were the best rooms I've ever stayed in based purely on their fitting theming.

They aren't really good for anything,
but they still bring a smile to my face when I push them down a flight of stairs.

From MousePlanet:
…When Disney’s Art of Animation Resort opens in phases beginning May 31, 2012, its food court will include fresh smoothies, hand-scooped gelato and Mongolian barbecue. Its main swimming pool will be the largest outside of Disney’s water parks, and will have an extensive children’s water play area.
I like the idea of a bigger pool and something for the smaller kids too!

I like the look of the rooms, and the pool sounds wonderful, but somehow I always come back the fact that family suites always seem over priced for the beds/sofa beds in there. I'd prefer 2 rooms with the permanent beds they offer for the price.
Yikes, those look pretty bad. I dunno how anyone can sleep with all that going on. And then there's the foldaway beds? If I were a kid, I'd probably freak out sleeping in a box that folds down . . . what if it folds back up and EATS ME?!?!
As for the Big Thunder Suite comment, I don't see why the Disneyland Hotel, which to me sounds like just a generic hotel, have just a handful themed suites to different attractions found at Disneyland? Personally I like Jungle Cruise, erm, Adventureland's suite![]()
I'm right there with you Pygie, it is way over the top for my tastes and just doesn't look comfy.
Jungle Cruise???Now there is a surprise.![]()

Disneyland Hotel is indeed a generic hotel. It's gone through some theming in recent years but it started out as a non-Disney owned hotel that shared the name "Disneyland Hotel" because of it's proximity and relation to the park opening. Paradise Pier Hotel is the same way although it was when California Adventure opened. It had been there for years when Disney purchased it.

I cannot wait to stay at this resort. I love Pop Century, but it was time for something new. The theming is incredible, and such a great family friendly feel. My family is planning on going on vacation with my aunt and uncle, who have a 10 and 6 year old. This will be the perfect place for us to stay.

I think one of the alluring aspects of the posted pictures are that the suites look, well - enormous. I don't think they are, but it makes sense as they are pushing the 'suite' aspect - lots more room for everyone. Someone got busy with a super wide angle lens there.
As for the room theming, it's aimed at the younger kids. I can see that they would really enjoy it.
That is the last place I'd would have wanted my kids to return to after a day in the parks. We spent a chunk of time at Port Orleans and Dixie when they were little.
It was tranquil and they settled down, as did the parents.
