Re: Alcohol at Be Our Guest
I don't understand the concern. Disney does not allow guest to be staggering around the parks. Alot of people are worried about the 'family' issue. I have never heard any kids asking about what a person is drinking. If a family doesn't want to expose their children to legal alcoholic drinks, then they can avoid the attraction. Didn't Gaston drink in the movie? How many kids saw that?

Now beards are allowed at Disney, and booze sold at Magic Kingdom. Sure, you can say the company is keeping up with the times, but if you keep up with the times and ditch all that Walt has built up, then there is no more of the magic that Walt created, and Disney is just another giant empire looking for ways to get your money. If they really want to keep up with the times, they should update Main Street to something along the lines of Times Square, that's current and hip, and should be acceptable too, right? This really isn't about whether or not Magic Kingdom losing it's dry status, it's about losing the magic that Walt created for a quick buck.
I noted you did everything there BUT answer my question.
Sure, all the magic is now officially gone because one restraunt in the MK now serves alcohol at dinner. It's all so horrifying!
Now the MK is going to be as dangerous and unhappy as the rest of the property.
Oh, and the 'current and hip' argument is the biggest red herring in the history of red herrings. Serving alcohol isn't "current and hip". It's actually been done since the first European settlers arrived here.

I'll drink to that!
Re: Alcohol at Be Our Guest
I'm not necessarily in favor of alcohol at MK, but Walt permitted it at Club 33. Why? Because people with money are allowed to drink? Is there not the same experiences shared by families in the other 3 parks, hotels, water parks, Downtown Disney? Again, I'm not lobbying for beer and wine @ MK, and I see the MK is being te ultimate wholesome family place touched by the hand of Walt, but I do not think this will upset the apple cart.
Re: Alcohol at Be Our Guest
lets all keep something in mind here... the reason this has not happened in the last 15 years is that there is not a real "signature" dining experience (which we all know by DDP 2014 this will be one of those) people want to have the option of a nice wine or drink when they are having an upscale dinner at an upscale establishment... finally in my opinion MK has this upscale restaurant... I wouldnt fault them for selling wine and such within it...

So, I take it that those who think this is an outrage never go anywhere else on property? They don't stay at resorts on property?
They find the other parks offensive due to all the stumbling drunks wandering around and making a nuisance of themselves?
No, I don't find the other parks offensive, I find their guests offensive. I've worked at Universal and Disney, and have noted stumbling drunks in both places, some more violent than others. The thing is you don't see it as often because the parks try to remedy the situation as quickly as they can by removing the stumbling drunk away from the public once they're aware of it. The parks really shouldn't have to go through all that trouble because people don't know how to limit themselves, and yes you see this quite often at Universal, and even around the World Showcase in EPCOT. But as I mentioned before, my beef isn't about whether or not one restaurant is able to serve beer or not, it's breaking the traditions of the parks Walt created, those very principles that made Magic Kingdom what it is today. Is it that hard to ask to leave just ONE park alone when you have the rest of WDW to go have a drink?

Club 33 isn't accessible to the general public.
No, you're right that once this whole fiasco settles down, I'm willing to bet Disney would like to try it again by adding a second place, then third, and so on and so forth 'til you see beer carts down Main Street, with the excuse "Well, we already are serving alcohol here, so what's the problem with just one more?"

You're argument is twofold. Alcohol is againsed Walt's beliefs (first), it's not entirely true with Club 33. Wholesome ethics don't apply for an exculsive club that you have to pay a fortune for? Second, there is no way there will be beer carts on Main St. It's not easy to make a debate on "what-ifs".
They really don't need alcohol in the MK, but to steal the thunder of an earlier post, they are offering it for upscale dining.

And I believe that is what the average guest does miss, what the CM's have to contend with while not breaking the Magic for the other guests. I'm not against it but I remember my son telling me about Leap Night 24 hours and the high percentage of real drunk, protein spilling guests in the wee hours. Saying that Disney was immediately in favor of a repeat of Leap but needing to control the alcohol a bit better in the future. And that is in a dry park.
I went from Epcot via monorail to the Poly and DS and I had a Lapu Lapu got on monorail and went into the MK. Guests bring in little bottles so I'm thinking Disney is just capitalizing on what is already happening.

I tend to agree. I'm not buying into the upscale restaurant, yes, it could become a signature dining place in the future just like Cindy's is but that isn't fine dining. I'm failing to see how fine the dining will be in a Super Sized facility like BoG. Me, I think it was just the perfect time to insert liquor into the MK, like they have been itching to for years. I can see next Tony's, wine complementing a fine Italian Dinner, gag. Liberty, the same and then inching into counter service and ultimately stands. Once Walt's commandment has been broken there are so many possibilities. I'm not really against it but I do giggle about the weight in the message is the fine dining experience. There are several TS I regard as fine dining in Disney, none of them are massive amounts of plating per hour.

I do understand your point about the hypocritical of Walt's Club 33. Not sure there is a difference in a Guest consuming at private venue and venturing out into Disneyland or consuming at BoG and venturing into the MK.
But I think your take on carts never being on Main Street could possibly be nieve. Late night, waiting for wishes, a castle show, I think I could vision carts happening on down the line, $8 beers just before a chunk of guests head back to the resorts. I'm not clairvoyant but I wouldn't say it would never happen either. There are so many WDW guests/fans that believed the MK would always remain dry out of respect for Walt's wishes and we see how that went. I just would not say never. I had a good chuckle out of a friends post, the irony of BoG serving liquor and Gaston Tavern being dry. Now if I were stuck in FLE for a couple of hours with a gaggle of kids a nice glass of wine to stroll with would be priceless.
Re: Alcohol at Be Our Guest
I tend to want it to stay dry just 'cause that's the way Walt wanted it to be, and with both Disneyland and MK both having other Parks and resorts attached to them on both properties, you can get a drink pretty much anywhere else on property.
That being said, DL and MK may both have been dry (sans private club 33) for all these years, but there were/are plenty of folks entering both parks each day tanked 'cause they got that way somewhere else before they got there.
Re: Alcohol at Be Our Guest
Why did I just now see Gabe's other posts besides #26?!?!?!
That's the original post I thought I posted after, and now I come back to see 3 others...before AND after mine... :inquis:
The way this site runs sometimes really erks me a tad.

Hey, you know what else you can do from pretty much anywhere else on property?
Go to the MK.
