Alcohol at Be Our Guest

Disney just announced, on the Disney Parks blog, that alcohol will be served at Be Our Guest. I am very disappointed in this. Alcohol has never been served in the Magic Kingdom out of tradition of it being a family park. What are your thoughts on this? The blog already has a couple complaints and I'm hoping if more complaints surface in the online community that Disney will decide not to do this.

I posted on WDWNT about this a little while ago.

All I will say is that Walt would likely be spinning in his grave, but how they're serving it seems to be classy, low-key, and relatively exclusive.

Now, were they to serve it from a stand, or something like that, it'd be a different story.

I'm all about tradition, but this doesn't strike me as being a big deal.

I have no problem with this. Frankly, Im surprised it took this long. Its only in the restarant, so people wont be walking around with beers. As long as there are no kiosks selling beer like say around World Showcase, I dont see how this makes MK less of a family park

Yeh... No real issue here... I think it would be something to be concerned over if every restaurant had alcohol and they had stands going up... Although I think an island drink in Adventureland would... You know what never mind...

Personally, I think I'd rather it not come in. But like everyone has said, it is exclusive and I'm not worried about people being overly intoxicated in the park.

At the other non-Magic Kingdom parks where they serve alcohol I've never seen people stumbling around or passed out because they drank too much. I don't think we'll have the same problem.

Since Walt's day, they have served alcohol in Club 33 in Disneyland. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but it dosen't seem to be over the top.

This is one break with Walt's traditions that I welcome. It's crazy you couldn't get a beer in the Magic Kingdom. This is excellent news! Now I might not have to bring my flask.

True, it isn't going to change the experience at the Magic Kingdom, however what makes this such an outrage was how Walt wanted to create a safe happy place for families to enjoy together, and was very adamant about not having any alcohol present at his park, or any scruffy looking carny folk. Now beards are allowed at Disney, and booze sold at Magic Kingdom. Sure, you can say the company is keeping up with the times, but if you keep up with the times and ditch all that Walt has built up, then there is no more of the magic that Walt created, and Disney is just another giant empire looking for ways to get your money. If they really want to keep up with the times, they should update Main Street to something along the lines of Times Square, that's current and hip, and should be acceptable too, right? This really isn't about whether or not Magic Kingdom losing it's dry status, it's about losing the magic that Walt created for a quick buck.
