Has OSHA Shut down attraction or just a bad day on West Coast?

The info is a little sketchy right now but the rumor is that this morning Ohsa/Dosh closed many attractions for "fall" risks and then compounded by purportedly a fire. Some attractions have started to come back online while other ones appear to still be off-line.

Guests are scrambling for answers but for the moment nobody is talking. They have put out activity tables in front of many of the closed attractions. Will be interesting to see how much of this is accurate verses speculation when the dust settles.

    These are still closed.

Me too, that is why I couched it the way I did, however I don't know what is worse or Disney having so many attractions out of commission on the same day.

It's certainly a bad day when you have every thrill ride in the park closed. Even if temporarily.

I'm thinking this has to be tied into the fall at Space Mountain last December? That last story you posted really doesn't point to it, but it isn't difficult to connect the dots.

It is odd, I guess the others are not coming up, it links to those attractions PDFs but are not building. And yes one of the ones is several fines of 70,000 each relating to the fall and correction reportedly not made? Some are talking about 2006 safty standard changes that were not made??? With it being a weekend doesn't seem to be easy to confirm much and nobody is anticipating Disney to clarify.

    Mice Chat report:

    Editorís Note:

    • April 14, 2013: Disneylandís Ongoing Ride Closure Ordeal: Three E Ticket attractions at the Disneyland Resort were suddenly closed on Saturday morning. Space Mountain and Soa rin' Over California are now closed indefinitely with Matterhorn likely to return on Sunday, after state DOSH investigators on Friday disciplined Disneyland for the accident last November where an outside contractor cleaning the Space Mountain roof slipped and was slightly injured. The closed attractions all have at least one backstage area that don't meet the state requirement of harnessed fall protection for any employee walkway with more than a 30 inch drop opposite a hand rail. Disneyland is rushing to find quick fixes for these backstage areas this weekend to satisfy DOSH, and several other E Tickets were delayed in opening by several hours Saturday morning for inspections. The rest of the Anaheim attractions will be inspected for DOSH compliance in the next few days, and more temporary closures are possible in the days to come.

    • Matterhorn maybe getting clearance. Staffed and attraction is in test cycling. Balanced seems unresolved.

Re: Has OSHA Shut down attraction or just a bad day on West Coast?

Well now it seems Disney might have been the ones to shut down the attractions thereby keeping Osha from inspecting them by the abatement dates that only had a few days left on the ticker.........

The Finding Nemo attraction was not part of this, it was due to a small fire on the attraction, coincidence.

Me<--------(I saw a lot of gripping in Fansville about Osha being petty over one of the infractions, not complying with annual fire extinguisher inspections, last inspected 2006 . While that was on Space and not Nemo, fire extinguishers are a necessary evil, considering Nemo caught fire the day Space was shut down. Irony.)

And Brown (disney) did address today, it came off flighty. As if Disney was just looking innocently into some of their attractions because they care about their cast members saftey. Oy. If Brown's press release came a day ahead of the shut downs, not a day after she might have been able to play the ditz, today she just sounded contrite.

Still seems like the Shut Downs were a pretty quick decision, if it were the master plan Disney wouldn't have had better PR ready for Saturday that Surprise Lots of attractions closed today.

I don't buy the fire extinguisher inspections thing one bit.

Fire inspections are performed annually. If you don't have new tags on your extinguishers, you're given 7 days to have them inspected and tagged. Failing that you will incur HEAVY per diem fines.

    So I'm to believe:

    1. Disney has been paying daily fines for over 6 years, and...

    2. The state fire inspectors have allowed this to continue?

    Um, no...

I guess someone could have altered the Osha reports and added in the fine but I'm not sure why someone would do that but I guess it is possible.

Yep. That is the recap. Over the weekend I was reading through the Osha reports. My Dad after he sold his construction businesses ended his work career as an Osha inspector so I'm sorta use to reading how they work however Osha-Cali, tends to make things harder than it has to be, Osha-FL, IMO seems to be the opposite end of the spectrum.

This whole thing is still so fluid, kind of strange whoever actually called for the closures, that it was on a weekend.
Nobody could contact anyone. I did laugh at Browns PR release though. Gloss.

The fire extinguisher inspection. They have either been done, or Disney has been paying a daily fines for six years. And there isn't a state fire inspector around that would allow that to happen.
