    And another 24 hour day

    Announcement at Epcot....

Another 24 hour day. May 24th 6 am to May 25th, with the Monstrous theme.

They aren't really good for anything,
but they still bring a smile to my face when I push them down a flight of stairs.

Think with all the Monstrous themes of the day, tomorrow announce should be a a Monster University RollerCoaster.

    I can have pipe dreams.

Re: And another 24 hour day

And if the date sounds familiar???

It is SeaWorlds Grand Opening of
    Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin.

So let the games begin! First SeaWorld makes an announcement, the Universal announces their $1 Billion dollar investment in USH, Disney announces Monstrous Summer activities and another 24 hour day. Hope Disney has something to trump Universal's $1 Billion Hollywood and additional $500 million in Orlando during Disney's press conference tomorrow. It can only be a win win for guests at the parks if they start topping one another.

    Theme Park Insiders:

If you were in Orlando on May 24, which park would you visit?

    SeaWorld, for Antarctica:
    36%

The Magic Kingdom, for the 24-hour party:
    34%

None. I don't do theme parks on holiday weekends:
    16%

Another park, hoping the crowds go to the Magic Kingdom and SeaWorld instead:
    14%

I'm loving the #battleofthethemeparks the last few days. Monsters additions are overall pretty good, still not seeing my wish, a Monsters Coaster at DHS. That would have been fun attraction to add into the #battleofthethemeparks.

Maybe they'll update the opening of Transformers to that day...

Total underwhelmed with the announcements. Even the 24-hour day announcement, done at Epcot, had nothing to do with Epcot - it was just where they could project a giant Mike Wasowski...it was a lot of wow for what was just another Limited Time Magic announcement...

And no new DCL ships, just a heavy refurb of the Magic.

Oh, and Avatarland is still in the works. Still not started either.

I just found it odd that the greatest theme park on Earth somehow wound up buried somewhere in the 14%.

Only in the ultra-narcissistic internet age of MORE, MORE, MORE!!!

Don't know who I blame more. Disney for feeding it, or the so called fans of WDW for pouting because they didn't get as much as they wanted.

It's all the pomp they are putting in to these announcements that are more suitable for a blog post.

Disney fans, probably more than any other group of fans, like to know what's in the future. It makes them feel more of a part of it.

Disney, for its part, has made several missteps in the past by actually announcing future plans - and then abandoned them.

I wonder if these announcements are the counter to that...give them something, but don't give them anything they could mess up later...

(yet they keep stringing along Avatarland...still in the "vaporland" category...)

And that's where the adult in everyone needs to kick in. Announced plans and then changed their minds?

    Oh, the horror!

As for Avatar, they're spending a pretty hefty wad-o-jack to build the new digs for The Lion King. They're preparing that area for something.

It was a rough 40 hours for a lot of them until they were off the clock the next day. Guests came in waves, at points wasn't crowded, but when Epcot closed it backed up the monorail and ferry unbelievably because a huge amount of guests transferred from Epcot to the MK for the duration of the night and a chunk were a tipsy crowd. I guess the custodial group got a work out on the protein spills.

Disney was not anticipating the crowd they had and there was long, mandatory overtime on top of the scheduled CM shifts. Only the bakery was open at dawn and the lines backed up to town square for breakfast foods and coffee for those who were there for the entire 24 hour experience. There was the same problem as they took attractions off line as the night hours went on and restaurants closed to only a few causing huge lines. That left guests determined to see the sun come up on benches and available tables at closed CS venues with outside seating. They quickly sold out of most 24 merchandise, I ordered my DS online during the day and it took over six weeks for it to come, though my account was debited immediately, which isn't how that normally happens for backordered merchandise, CM discount didn't work on that order either. Disney quickly decided to do it all again.

Checkmate to Sea World wont stop the fans wanting to see Sea World debut. Most likely AP holders and FL peeps so they'll go to Sea World likely during the day, nap, go to Disney after Midnight. Disney this time will have more attractions open, more CMs scheduled and far more food available. They learned in CA, 2 parks needed with all their loyal AP holders.

All and all you are right, a lot of hype, it brings out lots of guests in a slower time, sells a great deal of everything and only costs Disney CMs salaries and a quick turn to get the MK cleaned up and ready by 9am the next morning. Wonder if the Crystal Palace will be open for breakfast that morning?
