UPDATE:
Effective 13:36 this afternoon (8/13/04) the WDW Resort is moving to Phase 2 for the approach of Hurricane Charley. At this time Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney MGM Studios are being closed. Fort Wilderness has been cleared. Complete all clean up and tie down. Ride-out crew fully staffed at start of Phase 1 or as directed by the WDW Resort Emergency Operations Center. Personnel not in ride-out crew released as soon as possible. Depending on the storms movement we anticipate going to Phase 1 sometime today. The Emergency Operations Center and all Command Centers are activated at this time.

Just recently, the resort hit Phase 1. All operations have ceased, and everyone has been instructed to take cover. I hear they plan on bringing the night shift in around 2-4 AM to start preparing and cleaning up.
And there's food for the ride-out crews. How nice.

sounds like get ready here she comes!!
-
hope nothing gets to damaged and no one gets hurt
-
Phase 5 is initial preparation, and as the storm approaches, the phase goes down towards 1. AS you reach 1, fewer outside activities are allowed, and more things are tied down, I gather. Phase 1 means "sock it to us, we're ready"

we were there during a hurricane watch and a tropical storm went over- we were safe in our room at Old Key west
-
Any word on how they are operating today and if there was much (any) damage to the parks or resort?

I HATE being back in the real world!!!!

From what I understand, Animal Kingdom is the only park that's closed.
