Don't normally watch GMA on ABC in the morning, but I was flipping through channels and the weather man is broadcasting live from there this morning so they've been showing shots of the ride and talking to the imagineers.

    What I don't get is-
Everest is open, and it was letting guests ride it both days I was at AK.
    I rode it twice.
It is already open, so why are they having an "official opening"?

Before the "official" opening they have a period of "soft openings", which is kind of like saying "come pay to be our human guinea pigs while we make sure this thing really works". Sort of like how a Broadway show can have weeks of "previews" and then "opening night". Things can and do change during the soft opening period, just like show previews. The 'official' opening gives a date for the history books, an excuse to get the press there and have an event, knowing that everything is going to work. Guess they learned that lesson from Opening Day of Disneyland, when everything that could go wrong, did.

I went on during AP/DVC preview and during SOft Opening. But, The ride was running fine. They tweaked parts of it a little after preview, but, It only broke down once during the times i was there which was like 6 days.

Everest is really fun and fast. At some parts, it was going so fast I couldn't scream, and that only happens on the really fast rides.

I know a cast member who was part of the grand opening. I was hoping for a glimpse of her in a bacgroung pic, but no luck. Looks like it was a great event.

I can't wait till June when I can finally ride this bad-boy. I've been following the progress since it was first announced.
