As a rule of thumb, I try not to dismiss an idea without first seeing the details. TSI is outdated and no longer of any interest to me. I don't think cleaning it will get people flocking out there. The Pirates idea has potential. I'm at least for hearing more about it.

This is Disney's worst idea yet!! I love Tom Sawyer Island!!! I like the idea of a pirate island just not on TSI . I said this before on another thread, why not Discovery Island, it is just lying there vacant .
Yes, Attitude Tink, they did away with most of Aunt Polly's menu awhile ago (as well as her famous peanut butter and jelly sandwiches). It's really more of a snack stand with ice cream, chips and soda now.
It's kind of fun to do the impossible!

I finally checked out TSI for the first time in December, sniping the arms off riders on BTMRR was fun, as was the escape tunnel. Good times. Hope they leave it alone!

When we went to Disneyland Paris I seem to remember the Tom Sawyer Island has a POTC theme to it. There's a huge skull rock at the top. It still had tunnels to wander through and rope ladders to walk across. It wasn't too bad, but I sort of hope they keep TSI in WDW as it is.

Now, that might make some more sense. Still has the elements of excitement and danger, but not Cap't Jack. Maybe someone who has read Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn more recently can tell us if there is an encounter with river pirates in the books?

Not sure how many people would think "oh, those are RIVER pirates not Caribbean pirates" instead of "oh, look, more pirates" though.
ive read both books within the last year and there are no river pirates whatsoever. There is Injun Joe in Tom Sawyer and in Huck Finn they go up Mississippi but they dont come across any pirates.

Thank you. I went back to find the source of the information I had read: http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hi...1/19/6785.aspx

The 'river pirates' are encountered by Davy Crockett & Mike Fink (as in the retired Mike Fink Keel Boats), not Tom Sawyer.

DisneyDame you are sort of correct because in one of the Tom Sawyer's books there is some pirate thing going on & I remember somebody saying that Tom Sawyer may not go but they will just add pirates to it like in the books where both Tom & Huck would pretend they were pirates. So basically its the same that I heard of just with the addition of pirates.

last time we were in the escape tunnel it was immediatly following some naughty teenagers who had clearly been smoking pot in there. I had to try to explain to y 9 year old stepsister what that smell was! Other than that one episode the tunnels rock...although I do wonder if any one has ever been stuck - there are some very narrow passages!

It's what the Pirate producers want and if Disney wants to keep with them then they will do almost anything they say. Thats why they sell pirate stuff in every store in Disney, even Epcot and AK.
