There's no official date yet... nor an official announcement. I expect within the next couple of years.

But, don't worry -- it's well worth the wait. I'm sure it'll become one of your favorite films as well. It's a GREAT film. And some of the music in the attraction will probably start making a lot more sense once you can see the context in the film, especially some of the music that's only in instrumental form in the ride.

However, others oppose the release of the film, including critic Roger Ebert and the NAACP, feeling it's demeaning to black Americans. Up to this point, Disney head honcho Michael Eisner has kept the film in the vault.
I find it hard to oppose a release of a film, when most people have not seen. Personaly I would like to see the film so I have some understanding why its being opposed. Reading words just does not do it for me. How can words do anything for me since most of what I read is not for the release of Song of the South except for this forum.

Woah, are you sure its never been released on DVD before, because I looked it up on Ebay and there's like 6000000 DVDs for auction and like half of them say "Buy It Now" and they're really cheap, like $10.00, and Im kinda questioning how good they are, or whether I should order one... for my friend's birthday.... any suggestions?

Be wary of some of the eBay auctions with the "Buy It Now." Some may rip you off, and I highly doubt the quality is any good. A lot of the SOTS DVDs for sale online are made from PAL VHS tapes...usually British or Japanese. Was it ever released on laser disc?

    Buyer beware...

The quality of the copies I have seen is rather poor. The color has faded a lot and the sound is muffled.

I have a bootleg copy with same cover...I'm guessing they are selling bootleg copies. Which the one I have anyway is not the best quality.

but for $10 may be worth a shot

Yeah, it definitely mentioned something about Japanese or something about British stuff.... but it doesn't mention anything about Laser Disc. Do you think its just better to not buy it? It's not a big deal, its not that much money... so I can always re-buy it in the future.... hmmmmmm.

I wouldn't buy it on ebay. The way disney talks about it, I do not think they released it in any form except to theaters, and Spash Mountain in a limited form.

You can get about any DVD in China for $5 US. However, the quality is not good in most cases, and it may not be Region 1. When my son was in Shanghai last year he could buy DVD's of movies that were not even in theaters in the US yet. Can you believe that there are dishonest people in the US who would do anything for money?

I believe there will always be dishonest people. But I wonder what the world would be like if there was not. I also feel that money is a very powerful thing, and that some people would do any thing to get it. No matter what I still want them to release that film.

I wonder if it would be as controversial if it was made now instead of then and not by Disney....
