News on the Epcot wand

While on wdwmagic.com I heard that a CM has said the imagineers are finally going to take down the magic wand on SSE. Funny story about the wand...My dad - a total NONDISNEY person, who can't understand the obsession - was flipping through the channels when he stopped on the WDW Modern Marvel show. He left it on a bit since I was in the room and a picture of EPCOT w/the wand showed on the screen.

He said "That hand wasn't always there was it?" I told him know and he said he didn't think so.

There was a small glimmer of hope in that moment that he might start to understand the passion.

Recently I had been wondering what all the fuss about the wand was. It really hadn't bothered me that much. That is, until I saw a picture of SSE without the wand. I had forgotten how good it looked before! Now I think it's gotta go!

Here's additional confirmation that the wand is coming down. It's from Kevin Yee, the guy responsible for breaking the WDW Western Beltway expansion news last year.

I really hope this rumor is true, the wand was ok at first for the millennium, but it has been there far too long and I really miss the old SSE.

Just an observation.... I just ordered the Disney Vacation Planning DVD and inside contains a guidebook with an illustrated map of the WDW property. On SSE, they show the colorful illustration of SSE without the wand.... If you have one of these, check it out... the rumor is probably true...

I just rolled over(off my bed cuz the DVD is right next to my bed)to look at it and i didnt see what you were talking about, unless your talking about the maps that have the ball on them. From my recolection, the maps never had the wand in them. I just got the DVD 4 days ago in the mail and eatched everything, but i might have missed something that your talking about.

Finally...I really can't remeber what it looked like w/o the wand I saw it w/o it when I was little but I don't really have a mental picture of SSE w/o it.

On Page #11, there is a cartoonish map that says "map your fun" on the top. Disney is pretty good about detail to these maps. On this map, the detail is pretty good with mickey's hat at MGM, tree of life, the castle etc... On that map, SSE has no wand. It was just an observation. I might be looking way tooo much into this but thought I would throw it out there...

Screamscape sources tell us that when Spaceship Earth goes down for rehab there is also a plan to remove the giant magic wand from over the top of the sphere. This likely wont happen until towards the later end of the project when crowds are lighter and they can close off the pathway on that side of the ride. Of course that would also coincide with the peak of hurricane season.
