Thanks Ruddy, what a shame to let that go by the wayside. It definately would not hurt to have a 3rd water park! I think the should definately look at re-vamping this place.

Totally agree with you Dan.
The thing is that the longer they leave it in that state the worse its going to get. If they do decide to re-vamp it I think time is of the essence if they leave it another 5 years or so its going to take a lot more time, effort and money to get it back upto scratch than it would if they acted soon.

man those pictures make me sad...ill be angrey though if they reopen it having anything to do with Pirates or Stich haha....they have too much at WDW as it is. I just can't see why they dont open it again. I know all the rumors but please...this is Disney world. Are there any other Disney parks that have closed?

They cant open it at the minute (apart from the obvious reasons), they'd have to make some kind of partision wall to separate the lake from the park and fill the pools with chlorine water instead.

yeah, that's why it closed was because it became som e kind of violation to use a natural body of water for a water park ( although the lagoon is man-made). I was only 7 when I went there and I didn't even know it had closed until 3 months ago.
and yes PLEASE NO NEMO! NO PIRATES! NO STITCH!!! It's killing us! No, not the nemo please..! ...no , please, have mercy...! Not the .. AAHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhh! *gurgling noises and hangs up*

Besies, with all the deadly ameoba's in florida likes it would be too much of a hazard, they should just them it really cool and fill it with good ole chlorinated water.

I don't think they can fill it or chlorinate it because of Florida wetland laws, but they could find a way to use it. My suggestion is let it be a "down on the farm" style retreat/resort for families of service members and DVC members. That would protect the wetlands, use the property and give a reward to service members and DVC members.
-
They still have the Little Lake Bryan area where they do some of that. It is primarily for CMs but they also offer it for certain special groups.
-
they hopefully will turn it into something except DVC, Maybe they should turn it into something to do with nature... it will help the enviorment.
-
wow thanks for sharing those pics...I had no idea just how run down and unDisney-like they let River Country become...it's sad to see and it would be really nice if they made good use of the land again.

After listening to the WDW Radio Show this week I am very sad I never got to experience River Country. From the sounds of it if they could improve accessibility perhaps they could reincarnate it in its original form to some success.
I personally don't do the water parks just because of the crowds i have witnessed while on the transportation.

Indy, you must do the water parks if you have not! They are absolutely amazing!!!! Blizzard beach is my favorite, nothing like floating around the river that encompasses the whole park! Its so much fun!

Looking at those pictures makes me wonder why it hasn't been demolished.
The pool with all that sludge and gunk, what bugs it has to be breeding, yuck.
While it was charming back in its day, Typhoon put it out of business and the nail in the 'ole coffin was Blizzard Beach. I remember that water hole ruining several suits.
I'd like to see them build a real cool themed (chlorine) pool area on those grounds somewhere. It deserves something more than a standard pool, so unDisney. It is less than the quiet pools at other resorts. Something like POR, Caribbean would theme in well and possibly draw visitors back to the cabins. The whole area needs so tender loving care.
And yes Mickey's Retreat is much better for the CM's, I was pleasantly surprised this past winter. Never knew it was there, but I guess how should I have.
