Space Mountain down?

So, I heard somewhere (probably on a podcast, can't remember which one) about an impending Space Mountain extended rehab. Has this been confirmed? I think it was mentioned that it would go down for up to eight months to do the whole rock and roll update that has been seen across the park. The rumour was that it will go down fairly soon. Any truth to this?

THe Space Mountain update rumor has been going on ever since Disneyland's Space Mountain finished it's rehab back in 2005.

I was there last weekend and heard nothing to that effect. However, even if it's not an overhaul, they may have to do a quick rehab. It was closed for an hour or so at a time multiple times on three different days.

That ride goes 101 a lot anyway, it's nothing really new to anyone.

I know there was a thread about this back a few months ago but I can't find it. Anyway in it there was a lot of discussion around this rumor. Yes, ever since Disneyland got it's refurb it's been floating around. If I remember correctly someone posted some very specific information as to why it's not and will not be true. Something around the way in which the mountain in WDW was built versus the one in DL. It's just yet another rumor. The CMs like to have fun with this one too by helping to spread it.

I've heard this rumor before, too, but I wouldn't mind if it was true. I love certain things about SM - the shape of the building, the queue music, the projections on the ceiling - but I think it could use some TLC. It's starting to get pretty rough.

I went on the Space Mountain at Disneyland in CA when they "converted" it to "Rockin' the Mountain" after the rehab. It was a nice change. Not as dark and they had a soundtrack playing from the Red Hot Chili Peppers (think of Rock 'n' Roller-coaster). It was neat to see the track after all these years.

But, nothing beats the original SM on both coasts!

I do hope that if they want to rehab SM, they wait for after I get to ride it in Sept.!

I hope that if they do the refurb that they won't destroy the original vision for Space Mountain. I just don't see what Red Hot Chili Peppers, or any rock band for that matter, have anything to do with space travel.

It was for a limited time. They have gone back to the regular pitch dark ride everyone loves. The DL CA SM had (and I think still do) speakers in the headrests. Before they went to "Rockin' the Mountain", it used to play a song. This song was like surfing guitar music. I actually liked it. It drowned out the racheting sound of the cars. But to each their own.

It was to go with the Rock-it Mountain that was a rumor of transitioning Space Mountain mid-evening to a Rock-n-Roller Coaster in the Galaxy. Instead of making it one ride in the day and another at night they decided to make it a gradnight exclsuive and also use it during the year of a million dreams.
