Space Mountain Changes???

I was reading today in the "Unofficial Disney Guide" that they anticipated big changes to Space Mountain soon, to coincide with the changes made to Space Mountain in Disneyland......is there any truth or news out there? The book anticipated it would be happening this fall maybe. That lighting would change and the music would change from its futuristic space theme

IT DOESNT SOUND GOOD TO ME

It's been talked about in a past thread. No one knows at this point. I'm just hoping that if they do refirb SM that they wait until after I go in Sept.

Here's the thread:

It is supposed to be updated within the next year I believe, which I would welcome with open arms. But, I'm with you about the music, I don't think changing the soundtrack to modern rock music is the best thing for Walt's original vision of Space Mountain.

NOOOOOOOO!! Don't change the music! That's what makes S.M. what it is. I love the music as you're standing in line in the tunnel.

I sincerely doubt it's going to happen. Originally, "Rockin' Space Mountain" was supposed to take over full time at Disneyland too, but that hasn't happened. The Rockin' version is only for special events. During normal park hours at DL, it's the traditional music and VERY black interior.

I can see them doing it to WDW for grad nights or something similar, maybe, but not full time.

So what if they refurb it to the changes made in WDL? The Disneyland Space Mountain is so much more fun than the one WDW everyone says. I think that the changes would be good.

It isn't just a change thats the issue, it's what the change will be. I would welcome a refurb of lighting, track, etc. but I don't wanna see the music change or have any inappropriate music added during the actual ride!

I just re-read the first post and saw that you got this from the Unofficial Guide *ding* so I opened mine up and saw the same thing. You gotta realize that Jim Hill is saying this and I take alot of things he says with a grain of salt. The Space Mountain rumor has been discussed by many people, so he seems pretty accurate with this one, but a bunch of stuff he says seems like pure rumor, IMO.

When I went on SM at Disneyland when they had the two different soundtracks playing, I really enjoyed the ride. It was like listening to the radio while driving and having a song you can really grove to come on. However, I also like the old SM with the sound of the wheels on the track.

Let me make this clear - the music was not inappropriate AT ALL. It went with the theme at the time.

Change is always good, just as long as they don't change it when I am to go on my trip!!!

(Heard the rumors of refirb to begin in 2009, after my trip.)

I agree with the music sentiment! That's what makes the ride great.

I agree completely about the music. I think that, musically, Space Mountain has the best queue in all of WDW. However, I do think that the ride itself could use an update. How about Disneyland Paris' version comin' to WDW? :::grins:::

Man, I heard that somewhere, too. It's supposed to be down from like January 2009 to September 2009 or something like that. I forget where I heard it from, though. Maybe in an e-mail? I thought it was on allearsnet.com but I just checked their site and archives and can't find anything about it.

I hope it's not down next year. That's when I'm going!
