Is supposed to be closed until sometime in the Fall. Check the official WDW website for official info.

Not sure because I heard this one on Screamscape over a week ago.

2010 - Space Mountain: Mission 2 - Rumor - (1/29/09) A Screamscape source has confirmed to us that the lengthy Space Mountain rehab may actually see the ride closed for close to a year, so unless they really get ahead of schedule don’t expect to see the ride back open for Christmas. From what I’ve been told Disney did opt to go for a complete track replacement plan, along with building loading station area, queue and of course a new fleet of trains with on-board audio systems.
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it before or not but the Galaxy Palace Theater in Tomorrowland (between the Carousel and Buzz Lightyear) is being demolished right now. While Disney has long had their eyes on redeveloping this side of Tomorrowland (all the way down to the old Skyway station building) I’ve heard that the demolition may have been a necessary requirement due to the old age and stability of the venue. While there are no plans to build anything new here yet, Disney went along with the demolition mainly so they could use the site as temporary parking and storage during the yearlong rehab to Space Mountain.

Current word is December. TTA is supposed to re-open in mid-August so I'm assuming most of the major or noticeable interior work will be done by then.

With the limited time it will be closed in comparison to it's Disneyland brethren back in 2005, I am not sure how "must ride," it will be after I do it the first-time after it is rehabed. I hope that it is smoother as it is one of the stiffest steel coasters I've ever been on and has some sort of music overlay because if you ever go on Disneylands and THEN this one, you are missing something without the music.

Just remember however that the Disneyland version was refurbed primarily for safety reasons. None of the planning was started until the ride was actually closed. At WDW, the planning was done before they took the ride down so that will reduce actual ride down-time considerably. Word is they are smoothing out the ride, adding a special audio system (like RNR?) and a few other mods. Don't know if it will live up to the DLR version. Guess we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed and see when it reopens. Either way, I'll miss is on our visit (hopefully) this summer.

It will take a LOT to top Diseyland's. Disneyland's is awesome and has quickly became a must-do everytime I go. I've heard rumors of the re-tracking needed to support the new sound-system for the new trains. The problem is until Disney says something, we have nothing.

Lou mentioned the time frame on his recent podcast and it looks like November 22nd or so for SM. TTA was scheduled to reopen earlier in the fall.

I heard from a CM earlier today that Nov. 21st is the posted date, but given the extent of the renovations that could be fluid.

Re: space moutain

I heard they are closing it so they can rent out the facility for obama-sanctioned raves and rallies. I'm not saying this is true...it's just what I heard...from the voices in my head.

Those are the official WDW dates at this point (August 19th I believe for TTA). Doesn't mean they won't slip though.
